The calorie count and steps measure is very inaccurate. Steps count works even when at rest or sleeping. The calorie count works even when the device is idle( not wearing ) and also the inaccuracy is horrible ( for a sedantary day with no physical exercise, it shows the count of 2400 calories burnt, 100/hour )

Fitbit includes your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories that you are always burning just by being alive.  These are credited even when you are not wearing it.  These generally account for more than half of daily calorie burn.

See How does my Fitbit device calculate calories burned?

And don't bother asking how to turn off BMR calories - you cannot.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Calorie count includes what is called "Basal Metabolic Rate" the amount of calories your body uses to keep you alive.

You can determine your BMR by looking at the Web Dashboard calories in the Activity and Stat panel. Hover your mouse over a point in the graph where the graph elements are at the lowest during a sleep period.

Multiply the calorie burn for that individual 15 minute period by 4 to get an average BMR per hour.

In my case, my BMR is 68 calories per hour or 1,632 per day. This happens to match the value from a BMR calculator on the web for an individual of my age/height/weight.

Just doing a little moving around getting breakfast popped me up to an average of 200 calories per hour, adding another 33 calories on top of BMR during that 15 minute period.

So, it is real easy to burn 2400 calories in a day without "doing much".

The green spikes in the graphics are 400 - 450 calories per hour when I was walking on the treadmill at 3 mph this morning.

Hopefully this explains things - and welcome to the boards.
