Music controls issue

Hey there! I have had the Versa for a few days now. Loving it so far! Execpt for one thing, lol. I have only noticed one issue that seems software related either with the Versa or my phone. I have an Essential Phone PH-1. My issue is that I have been trying to get the music controls working to control my phone playing Spotify, Google music, ect... My phone recognized the Versa right away and would connect to Versa classic, but the Versa would time out and say "no devices found". However it will say it is connected to my phones bluetooth address. When I go to the music controlson the Versa the volume buttons work but there are no skip, play, pause buttons. Just the " start playing music on your phone" message. I have tried alot of troubleshooting. What I could think of and things I found on forums. Tried a factory reset too. Nothing has helped. Any help would be much appreciated. Just kind of annoying that a feature that is supposed to work, doesn't.

It didn't work for me until I went on my versa to settings > bluetooth > music via bluetooth = pair. Open bluetooth on your phone and scan for a new device. Click Versa Classic. Once your phone is paired to Versa Classic, keep tapping "Music via Bluetooth" on your Versa until the phone is connected to Versa Classic while the bluetooth = "on" on the versa. It may not work the first "on" time around. Dont give up. Keep tapping! Hit the left button on your versa 3 times until you get to the home screen. Press and hold the left button until you get to your payment, swipe to go to the left screen, click on the 3 dots, click the clock, click the phone, hit the left button again. This worked for me.

Thx, bro. It's worked for me.

Well, since the firmware update I have actually gotten music controls to work. The Versa still won't recognize my Essential PH-1, but will still connect after some fiddling. The musice controls are still intermittent, but at least I'm getting to the right screen with the back, play/pause, and forward buttons. Something I haven't seen before the update.

Seems they are on the right track. Maybe another firmware update or 2 for compatibility should fix the issues completely. I'm guessing they are working to fix it. With all the features they are trying to spotlight and roll out, I can understand why it's taking so long. Their tech team must be swamped. Lol. They want to make everyone happy... But priorities I guess.

Keep up the hard work guys and gals! I definitely appreciate it.

Thank you all. Now I can control the music volume played on my OnePlus3T. It's far away from perfection but at least I won't have to take my Pebble time as a remote control anymore, I hope...

I am having the same issue on my Google Pixel XL running Android 8.1 and my Fitbit Versa running 32.32.10.15. Music controls just absolutely don't work at all. Apps I've tried using this functionality with are Google Play Music and Pocket Casts.

Thanks!

Exactly same issue, Google Pixel XL and fitbit 32.32.10.15

Google Pixel XL is officially supported device. Please fitbit fix this issue asap.

Thanks a lot for this. I was facing the same problem a lot of other people were facing about changing the "input device" function on their phone. Your solutions makes it work seamlessly! I just have to figure out the other problem I seem to notice that sometime my Ionic's bluetooth just shuts down automatically.

Another sort-of disgruntled Pixel 2 user here. Somehow, spam-tapping 'Music via Bluetooth' actually got my Versa's music connectivity to work. Bizarre.

Displays the wrong song name, but I guess I can live with that. Now I just need to see if I can get notifications to work consistently... Sigh.

I was now told by rep on twitter that even though Pixel XL is a supported device the spotify isn't supported app, and the only app supported in Europe is Deezer (plus Pandora in US).

What the hell? Where is that information available before buying?

  1. Start a music app (I've tried Deezer, Google Play, and Amazon Music services) on the phone and play a track.
  2. Make sure "Versa (Classic)" shows as connected in my phone's Bluetooth.
  3. Go to Music Control (long-press on the left button) on the Versa.
  4. Press the 3 dots (...) in the lower-left of the Music Control screen and press the watch icon to switch the source from phone to Versa.
  5. Then select the smartphone icon switch back to phone as source again, and press the left button to return to the Music Control screen.

Wow. I follow your steps (using Spotify on a Pixel) and it worked 😅. Then I immediately tried it again, same steps, and it didn't work. 😑 This is really frustrating.

I have the same issue. Can control volume, but cannot play, pause  skip to next track or go to previous track. Have verified pairing and connection to Bluetooth classic.

Were you ever able to get Google Music to work on your Versa?

I am able to connect to "Versa Classic" via Bluetooth on my Pixel 2. By going to Settings on the watch itself then Bluetooth. You have to double-click the option beneath "+ Audio Device" so it says "Pair" in small text instead of "On". My watch actually said no Bluetooth devices found but my Pixel 2 found the Versa Classic and connected. I also had to enable Google Play Music in Notifications > App Notifications in the Versa settings menu under "General" so that when I start playing music it shows up as a notification and I can control the tracks. If you're using Bluetooth headphones it can be tricky. I recommend starting the music on your phone first so your watch can recognize that you've started playing music and then turn on your Bluetooth headphones. Music controls, however, are not accessible by holding down the left/back button but it shows that the Pixel 2 is not yet fully supported: https://www.fitbit.com/devices. Chatted with a Fitbit rep and he said "Our engineering team is continuously working in order to release new updates for new phone models." So, hopefully there's an update soon since the Pixel 2 has been out since October 2017.

I see that this is still an issue after seweral months 😞 I just both Versa yesterday and I'm already thinking of returning it. I decided to upgrade after my 3yrs old Sony SWR30 band broke. Btw, music control works flawlessly with SWR30.

I have Nexus 5x (which has Music Control support!) as "BlazeFS" here and I'm not able to even see "Versa (classic)" in BT connections! I tried everything mentioned here. Reboots, unpair, factory reset. Nothing. For a 200€ device from 2018 it's a quite a big fail if you ask me 😞

For me music control is quite a deal breaker - and as I see, I'm not the only one. And TBH after several months nothing changed so I don't really want to wait for some miracle when maybe sometimes in the future they will fix it. It's really a pitty.

EDIT:

For some reason it started suddenly working... BUT - one day worked perfectly. The day after, I wasn't able to change/pause the song, but volume yes. And the other day song was playing on the phone, but Versa was unable to connect. So, verdict is that is somehow working, but it's really crappy and you don't know when it stops...

Its a shame not to have music control working after several weeks.
In addition I see that receiving messages is not working stable.
All this leads me to beleive that there is a basic issue with the bluetooth capabilities of the device.
It also makes me think that it could be a problem in the hardware rather than softwae if for so long no working update was provided.

Fitbit, you need to resolve this soon or people will move to other devices including me.
I always was a fan of the pebble but that too had issues with bluetooth.
From a third generation device I expect much better!

I went through all this a while back and I have mine working reliably now.

Aside from starting my music playing only through my phone first (no bt speaker or headset) and doing the toggle to phone source when you long press the left button, I also went into my Bluetooth on the phone and found Versa Classic and tapped the cog wheel to get to it's settings and flipped on the switch there for input device.  That corrected the problem where I could only control volume.

I had also at some point in time added my versa as a replacement in the Fitbit Android app trying to resolve other issues.  I unpaired the versa and classic in the phone and then reset it up through the app.  That may be an option for some because it takes your watch back through the Bluetooth pairing.  After that you still have to repair the versa classic in your phones Bluetooth by going there and switching Bluetooth to pair in the watch settings and searching for it and then pair.

In this case, you all might get away with just repairing the versa classic, which only required you to remove it from the phone's bt and then repair without having to do the replacement watch set up.

I had a Pebble and I never had so many issues lol it just worked.  There are so many settings in so many different places with the Versa and the Fitbit app and your phone that it's easy to Jack the system up.  I am starting to love the watch now though as I get it closer to working seemlessly for me 😀

Hope this helps someone as I was extremely frustrated trying to get mine to work -  I know how it feels!

This also worked for me for a couple of seconds and then the phone ignored the controls on the watch. Making the classic Bluetooth connection an input device again fixed that. However I'm not holding my breath that this is a permanent fix but it's kept working for the last hour or so. Fingers crossed.
