Check that you don't have 'Notifications' turned off. Hold in left button a few seconds. Look for 'Notifications' under 'Screen Wake'. Tapping that toggles notifications on or off. If you have a credit card entered, you might have to scroll right or left to get to that screen.

Also be sure you have enabled notifications in the Fitbit app. You have to set a default app for calls, texts, and calendars. From the app, you can also set other app notifications if your device supports it.
