here is something a moderator posted about phones being compatible:
"Please note that your phone or tablet is not on our list of compatible devices. We confirmed that the devices on this list are fully compatible with all features of Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app. While a phone or tablet may not be verified as fully compatible, the Fitbit app may still work with your device.
We routinely test new devices to ensure full compatibility with Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app, and are constantly working to confirm compatibility with new phone models. Be sure to verify that your phone or tablet meets the minimum operating system requirements.
If your phone supports Bluetooth 4.0, we provide assistance and troubleshooting steps. Because your phone or tablet is not fully compatible with Fitbit devices, we can't guarantee syncing and other Fitbit features. "

Yeah I had this stupid watch for a week and I'm not happy either, this is a known issue which Fitbit seems to have been trying to fix for about a year, here's a workaround I have been using, see if it sorts your issue
Have you lost your notifications? Do you have the pink box message about doing a restart on your Fitbit App Notifications?
Are you finding Fitbits Official 'help pages' aren't working for you?
I have this issue and this is what works for me, but bear in mind this is NOT a one-time fix, the issue is ongoing, Fitbit is aware, but as yet there is NO resolution.
The most important thing from all the feedback on here is don't bother doing a phone restart , or even many of them, that won't solve your issue
Instead, do this (sounds a lot but takes only a few minutes) these steps are for Android, sorry I don't know about others..
Turn off Bluetooth
Turn off location
In settings, click apps, Fitbit, storage, then clear cache and clear data
Go to the Fitbit app and open it
When prompted, turn on location from within the app, and tick the offered permission boxes
When prompted turn on Bluetooth from within the app and give permission
When prompted to allow permissions for contacts etc, agree
It will probably sync now
Press notifications (under the general heading) and check you have WhatsApp or SMS, your email account etc then click on App Notifications, they will all have become unticked so select all again
Sorted!
If you use Alexa from your Fitbit, you'll need to go into that again from the main Fitbit app page and give permission again
If you would like to be aware the next time your Fitbit loses connection I suggest downloading a free clock face with a temperature option since when you lose connection the temperature reads --, and at least you know you won't be getting any notifications anytime soon..
Really hope this helps anyone suffering this annoying issue. If it works for you please post and let me know!

@Bethsavagexx no worries 😁
You'll probably need to keep doing it tho, and as far as I can see, without the alert from the temperature reading going to -- there is no way of knowing when the blasted thing is connected and receiving notifications or not..
Anyway, it's exciting to get notifications, isn't it 🤣
