Outdoor Bike Tracking

Why is it that when I start my Versa to track my ride its only measuring the duration of my ride and BPM.

The miles, MPH AVG and the MPH Max are all Zero. And yes, I have the gps setting on!!!

Sounds like it is a known issue

I only have used my versa twice so far on my bike. The first time it gave spotty position information, the second time it worked as expected. I did two things different on the second ride  (these may be important or not - I haven to tried to reproduce the failed behavior)

(1) brought the Fitbit app to the front on my iPhone. It was running in the background on the failed ride. Leaving it in the background always worked with my charge 2.

(2) made sure to wait until the front screen on the versa said “connected”. I am actually not sure if this did or didn’t happen on the first ride.

So! my versa was connected to my phone.  I got the info like distance, speed, heart rate etc..  but it did not show my route on my fitbit app on my phone.  Do I need to do something special??

After my first glitch, seems to work fine now. I bring the iPhone app to the front and wait until it says "connected" on the Versa's screen before starting.

That's probably my issue! I always have my s8 on the mid power save mode! I'll have to try this I guess.  Still kind of sucks but thank you!!

I went for a bike ride this morning - it only tracked BPM, no km, no map, no avg kph. How do I get it to track all of this? I have an iPhone 8

Thank you

I found that if you bring the Fitbit app to the front of your screen then start (and make sure the Fitbit says “connected”) then it tracks correctly

i verified that that if I leave the Fitbit app in the background it doesn’t track reliably. Probably has something to do with power save/do not disturb mode on the phone (I have an iPhone 6)

Thank you so much, it worked. When you "background" do you mean background refresh?

No Idea! I may return it because of this! Theres a big old spot for it but
it doesnt track. I read some posts and a guy said if you have a Samsung S8
(which I do) and you have the power save on even on medium it wont track so
I turned that off. Still nothing. You may have a similar situation but it
still didnt fix it so that point it mute. Havent been able to resolve. 😕

I've already started a forum about the pace not tracking which is one of my biggest issues but this one may be worse. I dont rely on autotracking, in fact, I remember to start my ride every morning but i find it constantly pausing my workout while still biking? I think it only tracks half the ride (it's a short ride but still). Super sadly, I am really not happy with my $200 fitbit. I have so many complaints than things I love which sucks. Idk 😕

Did you had your phone with you though?

Is that mean you have to have your phone on you for it to map it and calculate it all?

No you don’t need the phone to be “awake” the whole ride. The phone (iPhone 6) goes into power save after I start, but it still tracks as long as the Fitbit app was on the front screen when it goes to sleep.

You can check if it is working on your ride by looking at the Versa screen - if your speed is being tracked then the Versa is tracking correctly. If not then bring the app to the front and wait for the Versa to say “connected”

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the same on my Samsung Galaxy A6. turn off the battery saving mode & the Phone stays connected to my Versa. also I measured the distance on a ride with other device & compared the same. it was showing perfectly matched. the

Only difficult which i face is making the GPS to connect to the phone (problem in establishing a GPS Connection). when i open the Bike ride tile & just before the start, it try to connect to the phone (hopefully GPS) ...showing as connecting. but it will not connect to the phone GPS & keeps on telling Connecting. all of a sudden after 3 or 4 trials at some point it will get connected. its is a big problem with Fitbit devices on establishing a robust connection. now feeling it was better to go with Garmin with some little extra bucks

What's the point of having a device to monitor your exercises if you have to have your phone with you? I don't want to take my phone on my bike rides. If I did I'd just use a phone app. Useless. I miss my Surge.

My bike app on Versa will map the total ride, but will not collect the total distance. I can feel it “buzzing” on my wrist trying to connect to my phone while riding. I do make sure it is connected before I take off, but I guess it does not stay connected. My Samsung gear fit mapped it perfectly with all the other info too. I was hoping to lose the “wrist” bracelet for a more watch look. I am tempted to go back to it though....any suggestions on a fix?

I did find a forum that mentioned that your Location Services on your iPhone should be set to "Always" rather than "while using the app." I will try this next time to see if it makes a difference.
