Process to transfer music doesn't work on PC

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Ok - I'm finding LOTS of people having trouble loading/transferring music to their Versa due to wifi issues. NONE of the solutions I've read so far have helped. Here is some info that makes my situation apparently a little different from others.

1. I'm sitting at my PC with a Fitbit dongle plugged in, my iPad, iPhone, my router, and my Versa with the charger all within arms reach.

2. My iPhone and iPad both identified the wifi network and connected with the Versa no problem.

3. The Fitbit app on my PC is finding my Versa and updating the steps no problem.

4. My Versa will get to the screen that says "Use your computer to start transferring music" with the "End Now" button at the bottom.

Problem: When I go to the the music app on the PC Fitbit app, it continually says "Looking for your watch"

Problem: When I go to the wifi set up on the PC Fitbit app, a pop up screen say "Bluetooth is Off" so I punch "OK" and under networks NOTHING IS LISTED.    HELP!!!

P.S. I have been able to pair wireless earbuds to my Versa with no problem either.

BTW - If you tell me to reset the Versa by holding the side and bottom right buttons, or removing and setting up the Versa again I will reach through the internet and strangle you. I've done this a thousand times with my iPhone, iPad, and PC with NO results. I have also used the dongle to put the PC Fitbit app in Classic Mode - no difference. Also, there is NO option to manually enter the wifi address, only the Versa's IP Address.

Hi @Kelann, welcome on board. It's nice to see a new member around.

I appreciate you for sharing detailed information about the issues experienced, and the steps that you've tried when transferring music. To further investigate and confirm the information that you've provided in your post, please provide me with the following:

  1. Is your PC running Windows 10?
  2. Is the Fitbit app updated to the latest version?
  3. Was your Versa plugged in the charging cable during the transfer? Note that your watch will connect to WiFi when it's plugged in.
  4. Are your music files under MP3, WMA and MP4 w/ACC audio?
  5. Are you transferring your playlists from Windows Media or iTunes?
  6. Was the Bluetooth enabled in your iPhone, iPad and computer during the transfer?

Keep me posted.

Answers to your questions with more info added at the end:

  1. My PC is on Windows 10. It does not have Bluetooth, so I am using a Fitbit dongle.
  2. The Fitbit app on my desktop is the latest version, since I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice in the past week in my attempts to resolve this issue.
  3. My Versa has been in the charger and connected to the PC everytime I have tried to connect. HOWEVER I found that on my Versa watch screen when I go to Settings (ON THE VERSA WATCH ITSELF) and then to About (ON THE VERSA WATCH ITSELF). Where it lists the IP address of the watch it shows: WiFi off (EVEN WHEN PLUGGED INTO THE CHARGER AND CONNECTED TO THE PC).
  4. My music files are  MP3 files in a folder on my desktop that I was able to list on the Fitbit desktop app under "other locations" for it to search for music.
  5. These music files originated from iTunes, were converted to MP3 and moved to this exclusive folder.
    1. Note: #4 and #5 are irrelevant to this issue, because the Versa and Fitbit app won't get past the initial problem of NOT CONNECTING AT ALL.
  6. Since the transfer of music can only happen through the Fitbit app on my PC (according to EVERY thing I've read online), the only Bluetooth connection my computer accepts is via the Fitbit dongle. However, yes when my Versa connects to the apps on my phone and tablet (which both devices recognize my routers wifi network via the Fitbit app) Bluetooth is on.

New development: I have switched to battling this issue with my laptop computer and have found all the same problems. I have had to do this because now when I open the Fitbit app on my PC and try to setup the Versa (for the 1000th time), it gets to "Found It!" then my Versa watch gives me the 4 digit code, and when I enter it into the Fitbit app on my PC, it suddenly looses the connection.

So, do I have a defective Versa, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi @Kelann, welcome back. I'm sorry for my delayed response.

Thanks a lot for the information provided, as well for your efforts while trying to get your Versa connected. Before anything else, please verify that your router's protocol is 802.11 b/g/n under 2.4 GHz, so your device can properly connect to your WiFi. While you've tried this process before, I want to make sure that all the steps are being done in the correct order:

  1. Open the Fitbit app on your iPhone and sync your Versa.
  2. Plug the Versa into the charging cradle and make sure it's next the router.
  3. In the Fitbit app, tap on the Account icon > Versa image > WiFi and make sure it's connected. You should see a green check mark.
  4. Once that is done, turn off the Bluetooth in your iPhone and iPad, to avoid any interference. Also, unplug the Dongle.
  5. Now, open the Fitbit app on your Windows 10 computer. Note that your computer must be connected to the same WiFi.
  6. Tap on the account icon > Versa image > Media > Personal Media.
  7. On your Versa, swipe from right to left, tap on Music. Then on "Transfer music".
  8. Wait for your watch to connect. Note this can sometimes take a few minutes.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your playlists. Once the process is completed, a purple dot will appear besides each song.

If you get an error message, please take a screenshot and attach it in your reply with these steps. About trying with your other laptop, it's not necessary to setup your Versa again since it's already linked to your account. If you're requested to setup when transferring music, let me know as that shouldn't happen.

I look forward to your reply.

I appreciate your help. I followed your steps verbatim and got this far (which is where I get EACH time I try to load music, even though the desktop Fitbit app WILL sync with Versa):

Has this issue been resolved.  I have read all of the thread, but I see no conclusion.   I just got my Versa 2 for the purpose of listening to music while walking.  I have a PC Windows 10 and have installed Bluetooth.  I still can not down load music.  Is this why you don’t offer this on the new Versa Sense and Versa 3?  Maybe I should return this Versa 2 and get the newest model and just listen music through my phone.

thank you Sabine

Did you ever get a resolution to this issue?  This is EXACTLY the problem I'm having. I've tried everything. The watch indicates it's ready to transfer but the PC app continually says "Looking for your watch..."

Hi there,
I bought this Versa 2 because of the idea of downloading music to listen to on those long walks. After numerous attempts of transferring music to my Fitbit, I couldn’t do it.
Also, there was an update this week. Again, it took me numerous attempts to download the update. But, it took after the fourth attempt. I’m done. A fitness watch shouldn’t be this hard to update and upkeep it.
I returned the Versa 2 and now I am purchasing a Apple Watch 6. I hope you take the time and correct this function for all of the other customers that still have their Fitbit Versa.
Sincerely Sabine Sexton
