Fitbit Update: 9/09
Hi, Versa Fam!
Thanks so much for your patience while our team continues to investigate and work on this issue. We're still working on this and I hope to have more information for you all very soon.
As soon as there is a fix in place, I will make sure to announce that here. Please stay tuned and subscribed to this thread for updates.
Fitbit Update: 7/25
Hey, everyone!
I know many of you are wondering what the status on this bug is and I'm here to reassure you this is still being worked on by our team. For anyone still getting ghost steps on their Versa's, we are definitely working towards a fix. I don't have a timeline for when the fix will be released, so I appreciate everyone's patience for the time being. I recommend if possible, placing your Versa on a different flat surface without any vibrations to prevent the extra steps.
Fitbit Update: 6/21

@geepondy your response is not asinine! It is based on the facts as I have seen them for months and months posted here while these fitbit moderators ignore the real problems expressed by many Versa users. Blaming vibrations is a cop out. It is clearly not the issue.

@Cljf I for one did not find your original post offensive. You put simply spoke the truth. If corporate Fitbit cares about their reputation or their customers, there would be a different response from the moderators. Suggesting that I avoid fans, over and over, when that is obviously not the issue is offensive to me.

Just got the Versa for my birthday two days ago and was surprised to see 3,286 steps first thing this morning. It was on the charger all night. I see this issue has been happening for a long time, looking at the age of some of these posts. Why is the Versa still being sold if it doesn't work?? A known issue but still on the market... that's poor.

I would return it (hopefully you still can). As I posted earlier, I wish this problem would gain traction outside this forum so the masses could be made more aware before Versa purchase.

Hi everyone, thank you for your comments and input. I would like to explain that when we mention that you check if there aren't any vibrations caused by external factors is because this has happened with other devices and it is fairly common in these scenarios. Still if you have discarded this possibility then you can let our Support team know so they can further assist you as this isn't an expected behavior from your Versa.
Let me know how it goes!

My Versa worked great for the first two months. Sunday, I noticed that I had 13,000 steps even though I literally laid on the couch and watched a Netflix marathon ALL day!!! Yesterday morning, I woke up and took the Versa off it’s charger and it had 800 steps on it. I tried a shut down last night and put it on the charger. It was back on this morning and had 16,000 steps!! So now it’s basiclaly useless.

I get ghost steps no matter what I do. I’m tired of resetting it. It is absolutely useless except for the time. It’s an expensive watch and that’s all. I’m going to try to return this Versa and get an Apple Watch. I love Fitbit and am very disappointed in the product and in the lousy way this issue has been handled by Fitbit.

@Lucy105 with an apple watch - at least you get to swap out the battery when it fails. Fitbit - when the battery fails - you're left with a lemon.

Does anyone know how / if this issue is covered under warranty? I purchased mine from Best Buy in August so I am past the return period. But, I’m pretty pissed that I only got two months of use out of the thing and there is no resolution to a known problem.

AFAIK, warranty against defects is 12 months in US and 24 months in Australia and EU. Not sure about other countries. So I suggest stand up for your rights, but ask nicely first. If you don't know what to do if asking nicely doesn't work, find out. But don't discuss it here unless you want your posts deleted. PMs work though.
Had Fitbit promptly demonstrated both willingness and effective steps taken to rectify the serious flaws experienced since release including ghost steps, they could probably get away with saying that it's only a software issue that will be resolved shortly. That obviously isn't happening.
And don't forget that warranty laws are not international, you have to find out how they apply in your own country.

Well my replacement watch logged 11,000 steps while I was sleeping last night. I am so disappointed in the way Fitbit is handling this.

I can confirm this same issue happens with the Ionic. I will charge my device, take it off and it will spike up from close to zero to over 6K in regards to steps.
