Fitbit Update: 9/09

 Hi, Versa Fam!

Thanks so much for your patience while our team continues to investigate and work on this issue. We're still working on this and I hope to have more information for you all very soon.

As soon as there is a fix in place, I will make sure to announce that here. Please stay tuned and subscribed to this thread for updates.

Fitbit Update: 7/25

Hey, everyone!

I know many of you are wondering what the status on this bug is and I'm here to reassure you this is still being worked on by our team. For anyone still getting ghost steps on their Versa's, we are definitely working towards a fix. I don't have a timeline for when the fix will be released, so I appreciate everyone's patience for the time being. I recommend if possible, placing your Versa on a different flat surface without any vibrations to prevent the extra steps.

Fitbit Update: 6/21

Hi, everyone!

Sorry to hear that some of you are accumulating unwanted steps while charging your Versa's. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue here on the forums. Our team is aware of this affecting some of you and is working towards a fix on a future firmware release.

Thanks for your patience for the time being. Smiley Happy

I experienced ghost steps from the moment that I bought the Versa and charged it out of the box.

I had the same issue with my Versa SE that I bought a few weeks ago ..and now returned.

First time I charged it and woke up in the morning I had over 1600 steps counted.

Then as I noticed steps increasing for no reason, and started reading similar forums like this, I purposely took my watch off and sat it on my desk for over 2 hrs ..steps stayed at 756 ...

I picked up the watch, went upstairs and charged it ...When I put it back on my wrist, I had over 3000+ steps.

This was when I decided to return it for a full refund.

Now looking at new options like Garmin Forerunners, Amazfit and other smartwatches that have a more accurate step count and don't accumulate thousands of steps when no movement is occurring.

Pretty bad when a $200+ device can't keep accurate step counts like a $30 chinese "fakebit" purchased online can.

Really shocked and disappointed.

My versa started counting steps when I drive, as I steer the steering wheel. My old Blaze never did that.

Anyone else have this issue?

Hi all, hope you are doing fine.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and the feedback you have provided. I understand your concern and frustration about the steps issue you all are experiencing but I can assure you our team is working towards resolving it.

Sometimes issues take a bit longer than expected to be resolved, your patience will be much appreciated. As mentioned, keep in mind that every Fitbit tracker comes with a limited product warranty and in case you have inquiries or doubts about what it covers, you can check it on this article: Return Policy & Warranty.

My Versa counts steps when bike riding while using the activity, but you can add a drive activity manually for the time. This will delete the counted steps. But it doesn't work for the steps which the Versa counts during charging.

Charging on several different locations has not made any difference.  "Ghost steps" continue.

Well it has been exactly 2 weeks and I have not yet experienced the ghost steps, I have ghost floors about twice, other then that nothing.  I change it usually at the same time in the same place, using the correct adapter, and still nothing.  Still marking down progress on a pad of paper charting the steps and it looks like I am off about only 50 ghost steps average , but again it could be cause I inputed my own stride.  Still recording things will see how it goes over the next few days or weeks.

Did you previously have "ghost steps" and if you did what did you do to get
rid of them? Thanks

It makes no sence why some would work and others not... I get unwarranted steps daily.

Okay, I have been watching closely this morning, I noticed I received an additional 200 to be exact without doing anything.  Makes me fearful that the ghost steps will start to increase.  I have to go look at my actual date of purchase to see how long I got to test this to return it if flawed within the 45 day window.

This is not looking good, I thought I had a good one.  Also, I continue to get ghost floors.  Got one today.

Hi Alejandra.  At this point I think the group would appreciate a more detailed update such as the root cause of the problem if Fitbit has discovered it and what the proposed fix is.  Fitbit has been aware of the problem for a few months now.

I think the users who have multiple malfunctioning units of which Fitbit refuses to refund the purchase price deserve at least this much instead of essentially a repeated vague response every few days.

What type of phone do you have?  I'm curious, I have an iPhone and have never seen ghost steps, and have have the Versa since release (pre-ordered).

Left my Fitbit on the charger but not plugged in and in 5 hours od being asleep I have 14,000 steps. How can I delete this and fix this?

Its my first issue with this again since I bought it in May when it was randomly counting.

Mine was an iphone.  I bought the Versa at the very end of April, a couple of weeks after release.  I had ghost steps pretty much from the beginning and also before and after the early May firmware release.  The biggest problem I had was attempting to get repeatability of the failure.  In the two weeks I had it, it failed at least three times with several thousand ghost steps at each occurrence but I couldn't force the issue on my own.  I tried repeatedly inserting the Versa into the charger both with the charger initially connected and disconnected to the USB source and tried multiple USB charger sources but not once could I reproduce the failure on my own.  The fact that Fitbit refuses to provide a concrete update after several months makes me think they are encountering the same issue.  Either that or its a hardware issue that cannot be easily fixed via a firmware update.  I didn't have any other major issues although I didn't push all the capabilities.  It would sync to the phone fine, seem to recognize when I entered an exercise mode and displayed my notifications correctly.  I was sorry to return it but as it turns out rightfully so, had little faith a replacement might not display the same error.
