Fitbit Update: 9/09

 Hi, Versa Fam!

Thanks so much for your patience while our team continues to investigate and work on this issue. We're still working on this and I hope to have more information for you all very soon.

As soon as there is a fix in place, I will make sure to announce that here. Please stay tuned and subscribed to this thread for updates.

Fitbit Update: 7/25

Hey, everyone!

I know many of you are wondering what the status on this bug is and I'm here to reassure you this is still being worked on by our team. For anyone still getting ghost steps on their Versa's, we are definitely working towards a fix. I don't have a timeline for when the fix will be released, so I appreciate everyone's patience for the time being. I recommend if possible, placing your Versa on a different flat surface without any vibrations to prevent the extra steps.

Fitbit Update: 6/21

Hi, everyone!

Sorry to hear that some of you are accumulating unwanted steps while charging your Versa's. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue here on the forums. Our team is aware of this affecting some of you and is working towards a fix on a future firmware release.

Thanks for your patience for the time being. Smiley Happy

Not going to say much, because it's been said. Just wanted to report my wife's Versa records steps while charging. No vibrations. Hoping a fix is available soon.

Since I had a warranty from Best Buy, I returned my Versa to them for store
credit. Due to the untimely manner Fitbit is taking to fix this problem,
it's disappointing to have to continue to wait for over two months and not
have any updates for fixes.
This shows a lack of integrity in the company.
Unsubscribing from all.

Same issue here. I get about 5,000 to 7,000 steps a day while sitting at work. Really frustrating if you want to use it for what it is intended to be used for. I think I am going back to my Charge HR. My wife has the Versa SE and is not having an issue.

We see a great big message that

"We are working to resolve an issue which may cause the Fitbit app for Android to display 0 for steps/calories and/or live heart rate on the main tile. In the meantime, clicking into the tile will display your stats.Visit this discussion for updates."

Why don't we see the same kind of message for the ghost step issue?  I saw a message not long ago that they were working on an issue with inputting foods too...

Hey Aless - I was sitting down folding newly washed clothes and my fitbit step count still kept increasing! This is very disappointing!

Hey Marco - I can atest that my Versa has ghost steps too. I have been sitting for over an hour now folding clothes and the step count has continuously increased. I have not stood and walked but is just actively waving my arm (because I’m folding duh) and my fitbi just counts that movement too! I am returning this first thing tomorrow very disappointing!!

Here’s a thought:

The Ionic has built-in GPS. The Versa has Connected GPS.

The Ionic will know when its location is gradually changing over time. So if that is not happening, it can discount ‘steps’.

The Versa has more trouble knowing this.

If you have your phone in your pocket while wearing the Versa, then Connected GPS should work much like built-in GPS, so the phone can discount non-steps..

But suppose you have your Versa on the charger and you are walking around with your phone. Now the phone is generating changing GPS coordinates, and the Versa will be picking that up. So perhaps it assumes steps are occurring.

HOWEVER this is not really an excuse: If you are not wearing the Versa, it should know, because it should not be detecting a pulse. And in that case, it should be discounting any movement of either itself or the phone.

If the Versa does not discount movements (of itself or the phone) while it is not detecting a pulse, this is a BUG. And surely an easy one to fix.

So what are we to do in the meantime? How will we know when the fix is done? Very odd and disappointing.

It has been almost 2 weeks since I received and have been using my Versa, I still have not experienced any ghost steps and the more I watch it the more I am ruling things out, however let it be known I am not a software engineer however I am a software troubleshooter, the only thing I am thinking now is it has something to do with the GPS setting.  I started using my setting with almost nothing set, and one by one I have been adding items and I am now almost all funtuional with all settings on, the only thing left I have not set was the gps.

Do do most of you use the gps with your phone or the app that it is on?

If you open the app and go to you account, then scroll down to the bottom till you see Versa, click Versa and scroll down till you see Exercise shortcuts, when you see your Bike, click it and you can turn your GPS off there.

Thank you. I hope that works! I'll be able to tell tomorrow if it starts tracking "ghost" steps. Also, when I go to bike again I'll need to turn the GPS back on?? I also saw my GPS on for running. But my step tracker didn't start acting up until yesterday when I rode my bike. Any info is much appreciated!!

Nope, I have never turned on the GPS... all three Versas I have had got ghost steps and I did not use the GPS on any of them. Replacement #4 is supposed to be delivered on Monday. I hope I get one from the batch that yours came from Runtu...

Wow I am surprised, I was almost sure that had something to do with it.  Oh well, back to troubleshooting.  I did have a small issue this morning, no ghost steps, but not recording floors, and I got a notification to charge my Versa, but it was at 50%, so not sure where that came from.

How long did you have your Versa, before you started to notice ghost steps, maybe there is a time line I should be looking at?

It just started two days ago. Did you contact Fitbit directly about your issues? I've had the watch for about two months. Not long! I've really loved it until now. I wish they would be specific on how they are going to resolve this matter. I'll contact them directly. Thanks for the info!!
