Rapid discharge after charging my Versa 2

I have a Versa 2 running update 35.72.19.

Lately, my Fitbit is having a battery issue. The last two times when I have charged the device from 20% to full charge, the battery would drop precipitously after taking it off the charger without any movement on my part. For example, I typically lose about 20% of my battery a day with full activity (8-12k steps), but now I am seeing a 20% drop in an hour while typing in an office setting. When I reboot the device, the issue stops and it discharges normally from that point on. I've had this happen before, but never twice in a row.

My battery is the same. Contacted support, basically we are to treat a $300 item as throwaway after a year, as it’s out of warranty. I was offered 35% discount on a new one… will be switching to Apple Watch

Thank you for your empathy about this situation, Edson. You are correct that I did contact customer service about this issue. Indeed, it was their lack of support for this issue led me to here hoping for a better answer.

When I spoke to them, their determination was essentially "wait for the next update." There was no confirmation that this is a known issue or that it will be fixed in the next update, nor could they tell me when exactly the next update will come. Instead, I should just keep syncing the device hoping I'll hit the update jackpot. I do troubleshooting for a living, and honestly this chat just felt like a blow-off.

I, too, have been a faithful Fitbit customer for years with multiple device purchases, and I had hoped for a better resolution (or any resolution, really). Unfortunately, experiences like this make me question whether my brand loyalty is misplaced.
