Sleep and Calorie Issue

I was given the Versa2 for Christmas.  It has only tracked the heart rhythm, r.e.m, sleep patterns etc. once.  I have re-set it to factory mode at least five times, uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times and done all the trouble shooting recommendations several times.  Today, I have not had the watch on at all and apparently I have still burned over 700 calories while not wearing it!  How can this be possible for the watch to do this?  How do I fix the sleep issues (I have read the prior complaints/fixes etc from the community member boards already.  Anyone else burning calories while not wearing it? (Obviously my body really is, but the watch is totally inaccurate since it is not on my wrist!)  I want to send the thing back, but the box/packaging got tossed in all the Christmas waste.

Thanks for any help!

The calories are your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories that you are always burning just to stay alive.  Fitbit credits these, even when you are not wearing the watch.

See How does my Fitbit device calculate calories burned?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
