Is taping over the display the only dependable way to sleep with Fitbit on wrist and avoid light from face?

Hi @GregoryLeeCrose. Welcome to the Community Forums.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and I'm sorry for this inconvenience. With the Versa Lite you can either turn off the Screen Wake or turn on the sleep mode so your watch doesn't turn on when moving your arm at night. You can even schedule sleep mode to automatically turn on during certain hours. Just open the Settings app, tap Sleep Mode > Schedule.
Give it a try and keep me posted.
