Someone else's data in my data

I'm January I bought a secondhand Versa and Versa 2 for me and my partner. I didn't wipe the Versa before I added it to my brand-new account. (Now I use the Versa 2.) I realized my error and wiped both, but the data from 2020 and before is still there, along with some badges I haven't earned. At first I couldn't delete the data because my account was less than a week old. Now i can't delete the data because the calendar to delete my data only goes back to when I made my account. When I scroll back through my data though, I see entries from years in the past.

I dm'ed with a support person and they said a) this isn't how Fitbits work, so it's really odd that I'm seeing someone else's data on my account, and b) they can't help, but they will send it to someone else who will email me. No emails have shown up.

I just want all data from before 2021 deleted. I need help to do it though. Can anyone lend some expertise? Thank you!

I can't quite follow everything you have done, including how you deleted some data, but here's some information that might, or might not, help you.

I don't know what kind of information you are seeing from years in the past, but if it is just calories burned, and it is the same amount every day, that is not a problem and cannot be avoided.  Fitbit includes your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories that you are always burning just to stay alive.  They are logged even when you are not wearing the tracker, and show up way back in past history.

Fitbit data is stored in the fitbit computers by your fitbit ID/email.  Historic data is not stored on the tracker, except since the last sync.  Any time you want to start anew, one way is to first sync from current account, then log out of fitbit app and create a new account with a different email.  That will give you a completely fresh start.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thank you for your reply, Johnny!

I haven't deleted any data.

The data I'm seeing is heart rate, steps, flights of stairs and a bunch of
badges I didn't earn. It's in previous years, and I just got this device in
February. This data is not from any linked affiliates.

I hope I don't have to start over, but it's good to know this is an option.
Thanks for sharing it with me!

"I haven't deleted any data."

Then I don't understand what you mean by having "wiped" it, but that doesn't really matter now.

According to what's been said on here, the trackers can only store about a weeks worth of data. When you sync, the Data goes to the account the tracker is assigned to. It doesn't get stored in the tracker. This would be where Fitbit said it doesn't work that way.

Not sure what to make of this one. It's definitely not how accounts are supposed to work, regardless of "clearing". There should be nothing in a new account with a used tracker other than possibly the last weeks worth of Data.

Please keep us updated?

Hey there, thanks for the background info on syncing! This is an even
stranger thing than I thought. Yes, I'll update if I get any leads. 👍
