Step count wrong/inconsistent and steps not saved

I have been doing 3-5 miles on the treadmill 3-5 days a week (distance close on Versa but not the same) for almost a year now. In the past when I did 5 miles according to treadmill distance I hit 11,000 steps. For the past month or so the Versa now only counts between 8,000-9,000 steps for the same 5 miles per treadmill distance! I do vary my rate of speed but average the same speed as in the past year. I checked my settings and have it set for my non-dominant hand which is where it’s always been set and the wrist I still wear it on. Since I’ve been doing it so long like this is it possible my stride has lengthened? But then why on some days does it still display 11,000 steps for 5 miles and other days not? What the heck???!!! Versa also doesn’t retain my steps and distance from previous days; looks like I’m slacking and I’m not! Ideas? TIA... I’m getting to the point I don’t even want to wear it.

It's great to see you in the Fitbit Community @Gerilyn.

I'm sorry to hear that your Fitbit Versa doesn't seem to be recording your steps accurately. Thank you for the information provided and for checking your settings before contacting us.

I would like to clarify that your stride length is determined by your height and sex, therefore it shouldn't have lengthened.

If you haven't done it already, please perform a restart to your watch by following these steps. You can also try switching from non-dominant to dominant and going back to non-dominant.

If you have any question, please don't hesitate to contact us back at any time.
