My husband cannot wear a watch at work for safety reasons, however would love to count his steps during is working hours, if he purchased a Fitbit and put it in his pocket during working hours. Cannot have phone either do downloading an app Is not practical

Have you considered the Fitbit Inspire (not the Inspire HR)? It has less features than the Versa range but there is an optional clip available for it so it can be clipped to a belt and still track steps.
