Steps recorded while working and driving

I got my versa yesterday as a gift and its the first time in my nearly 50 year life, I'm going to return the gift.

I've had a fitbit before so the problems I'm going to mention have always been there.

So, my job consists of a lot of computer work and quite a bit of driving.  The versa, like the previous fitbit, records these movements as steps (possibly exercise).  I've tried to find solutions but, unfortunately, all I see is "work arounds".  For example, dominant settings, take off, log into to app to set up activity.  However, all these "work arounds" either do not work (the dominant settings) or consist of taking watch off or remembering to go into app to change activity.

Ultimately, I might as well stick with my phone as that seems more accurate.

Is there any sort of permanent fix before I return it?

I really hope there is

Many thanks

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Hatchetman1. Sorry for the delayed response.

I regret to hear that you are considering returning your Fitbit Versa because it is recording steps while you work on the computer or when you drive. Thank you for trying to find solutions before contacting us. When doing some activities as working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, your watch may add some steps because it "thinks" that you are walking. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats.

At the moment, we recommend manually logging a driving activity as explained on this article

There is a request on the Feature Suggestion board called Automatic activity recognition while riding bike or driving (GPS data from phone available). You are welcome to join and vote and once any update be available it will be communicated as soon as possible.

If you have any question, please don't hesitate to contact us at any time.
