Text Messages will not work with new updates

Text messages will not display with new updates. 
Says that messages noticications need to be:

• Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

This is a privacy concern of mine .  
I have always had my messages not to display on my phone.  Text messages use to come in with it set to ”Never”. 
What or why did it change?

Without knowing anything about your phone. You are asking a question about your phone? 

On Android if notifications don't show on the lock screen, the notifications are never sent and there is nothing that Fitbit can pass on. 

This is a limitation of Android, not Fitbit.

I have the versa 2 and the Iphone xr i followed the promotes from another form and it starting working today.  i can just see the message not reply to them but that is it.
