Text notifications

I have had my versa 2 for a week. Happy with how I can swim with it and happy to see my HR when I have it on. It paired with my pro beat ear plugs and notifies when a call comes in. But for the life of me, I cannot get it to notify me of texts. It’s pretty important to me because I work in the medical field and Drs send me texts frequently. 

I have spent a lot of time researching how to rectify this problem but nothing helps. I’m starting to wonder if I should have just gone with or go to, an Apple. 

If anyone knows of a solution, please let me know. I feel like I have exhausted all options.

IPhone 11. All apps and phone are uptodate with the latest software releases. Have tried a number of switching on off and re-set combinations
