I go to settings ->Brighten-> . and it's on "Dim" . I swipe up and down and nothing happens . I notice the "Dim" is grayed out

I had the same issue. On your watch swipe right when the screen lights up. It should take you to your quick menu.  Make sure that the sleep mode is turned off. You should then be able to edit things on you settings.

I had the same problem and went through the instructions here, nothing worked. Then one person said go to tips and I saw I had inadvertently set it to sleep mode. Change that and the brightness turns back on.

Tried all tips etc.

Gave up and switched to an Apple Watch.

So much better, more useful, sturdier and more comfortable.

Enjoyed Fitbits (3) until I didn’t.

I stumbled on this completely by accident, as I was having the same trouble as you could not change the dim setting. I found that if your Fitbit is in sleep mode it has to be set to dim by default so they deactivate the ability to change it. I found that by holding down the left side button for a few seconds until a quick menu came up. lower left is your dimness upper right is your sleep mode. Once I shut off sleep mode I was able to set the brightness setting the way I wanted to. Hope this helps!

Hi @Mel54 - Go to Quick Settings and disable Sleep. Pull the watch top edge down once, then again and click on the 2 white bars.

Hi all - the left button shortcut [long press] can be configured to go to Quick Settings in the watch Settings menu, however there is a risk of changing your settings if the button get pressed accidentally for 2 seconds. May be selecting something that doesn't matter may be safer, such as Timer.

You can always go to Quick Settings by pulling the watch top edge down once, then again and click on the 2 white bars.

Why does so many Fitbit owners have brightness problems and I’ve done everything possible with customer support help and in the end he said I don’t know what to tell you. What poor company support when so many of us have the same brightness problems

Hi @russellmiller82  - there various reasons for brightness problems the most notable is your watch is in Sleep mode which automatically dims the screen and you can't change the brightness.
