I have recently received messages from people I do not know asking to be my Fitbit Friend so that we can share our results. I have blocked them all, but I want to know how they got my email address.
Is this a scam? Has there been a data leak?

@W1C They don't have your email address. You're likely getting emails from Fitbit, alerting you someone wants to be your Friend. As part of the Community, anyone can click your profile and there is a add Friend option. Maybe calling yourself Madame attracts some? Just a thought.

This is a big problem with Fitbit. there are many fake profiles that are here attempting to scam others or get them to message them on other sites. Right now Fitbit seems to not care about people being harrassed on here. My advice is to ignore those fake profiles and report them. Many women find it helpful to not put their own picture as profile pic. I don't accept from profiles without activity. badges, only female friends, etc. Also noticed more activity after posting to any open groups. There is quite a long thread about the problem.
Don't allow users to create Fitbit accounts unless they have Fitbit devices
Hopefully Fitbit will decide to either stop allowing these fake profiles or figure out a verification system for profiles.

I agree! It has turned into a dating app! I never get unknown friends requests from women. It's annoying could get a woman into trouble if she accepts.
