I've just bought a Versa 2 and all it does is tell me to set up the app. How do I use this thing without a smartphone or Windows PC?

I'm afraid you will require a compatible Win10 / Android / iOS device The Versa requires the app for setup and syncing fitness data.

@SunsetRunner @monsterfurby I'm sorry, I don't want to make you feel any worse about this. The Versa 2 is only compatible with certain Android and iOS devices. It will not sync with Windows phones or the Windows 10 PC app.

@LZeeW is right @SunsetRunner . You need to read the box to see the requirements before buying any fitness tracker. Most all of them on the market require a smartphone, tablet or computer. If you want to check steps, then a pedometer would work. There are several out there that clip or can be worn like a watch.

@SunsetRunner the Versa 2 is the newest of the Fitbit devices. You might be able to track your sleep and heart rate with a lesser model, such as the Inspire HR. Why not compare a few of the products at the Fitbit Store link and see if one of them will work with your phone. I have an older Android 5 phone and it works well enough to do what you want. There is no need for remarks like that. People are trying to help you.

What 'phone or device' do you own? Have you tried running a software update on it?

I hear you, but it seems like you don't hear me.
Of course I don't wish any ill upon you. I hope tomorrow is the best day of your life and you win the lottery.
But I have never felt such frustration with a product from a supposedly industry-leading company. Their live chat is permanently closed. Instead they make community members like you suffer through the vagaries of what should be a paid job.
And it's not your fault that you can't provide a solution, you're just like me, one of their victims.
No, I don't want to track my sleep with a lesser model, I paid several days wages for this model! I can't just ask for a refund because fitbit community website said so.
Thank you, @Odyssey13 for being so kind but I'm not sure we can help each other 😞

I have an Android phone that I cannot update the OS on beyond Android 6 because of the way telecommunications providers work in my country. They do not provide software updates.
I understand that no one here represents the company.
No my device isn't listed on that page.
Thanks for taking the time to respond in earnest, but I understand now there is no solution to my problem.

What is the make & model of your phone?
It is not your cell service provider but Google that provides update for Android.

I have the now retired Alta HR, which was replaced by the Inspire HR. @SunsetRunner the Fitbits that monitor heart rate all do it the same. People buy the Versa 2 because it has many features the more simple styles don't have. Versa 2 lets you hook up with Alexa. I'm not at the stage I would want to use music on my device, either. There are moderators who keep an eye on the forums. I'll have one stop by to address your concerns. I wasn't aware that the online chat was closed. I'm in the US. Where are you?

Unfortunately it is the service provider that determines what updates you get in Australia. The article you linked mentions this under the "When you'll get Android updates section:
If you have another Android device, contact your manufacturer or operator for info.
But thank you for trying to help, I do appreciate it.

@Odyssey13 I'm in Australia, but the point isn't that the live chat is closed. When I go to use the live chat, it says there's no one free so I should call by phone. I worked in a live chat role for several years and that's not how it works. If no one is free then you go in a queue to be handled later. They are clearly trying to avoid supporting their customers, that's the point.
At any rate, I am grateful for your help, so thank you. I've given up on Fitbit the company, but the Fitbit community has been nothing but kind.

@SunsetRunner i have flagged your earlier pot for yelling. Their or other ways like Bold, change color, or underline that may be used without a poster restarting to yelling.

@SunsetRunner
I have found a potential workaround to your issue. Just took some digging around & research on Google. The answers are out there....
....you just had to look!
Remove sim card. Enable & login to a Wi-Fi source that is not provided by you mobile phone network provider.
Go to settings > updates on your phone. Download latest Android OS.
I did ask you what make & model phone you had. You never replied. I asked for a very specific reason.
That was to give you a workaround that WILL work.
That being: Download the app specific to your make of phone to a laptop or Mac.
Example: For Samsung it is an app called Kies.
Remove the Sim card from your phone. Using the USB charging cable connect phone to your laptop & connect it to the app.
Now manually force the download.

I was taught & learnt (often the hard way!) a long time ago rules are not to be broken 'as you cannot win' but if you learn them & how to manipulate them to your favour? You can win & beat the system.

I have an Android 7 phone. I want to buy a Versa 2. When I try to find out if my phone will download the Fitbit app, the Fitbit site says Android 7 is fine for the download. But then it doesn't mention my phone model in their list of phones that can download the app. How do I find out if my phone is OK.

Your as king is if your phone will work, but no mention of the phone model?
The best would be to search the boards for your phone model

Have a Motorola G4 plus. It's not listed among those Android 7 phones that will work with Versa 2. Is that because they just didn't test all models?
