Using the Sleep tracker

Hey, just a quick question: does my phone have to stay on when I’m tracking sleep? It recorded my sleep hours but it doesn’t seem very accurate, so I’m trying to make sure I’m doing it right. It also keeps saying sleeping from 1 to 9:30 is somehow only 7 hours and 14 minutes of sleep.

If you go touch the moon on your app you'll be able to see a graph showing specifics about your sleep quality. I don't think "restless" time counts towards sleep minutes.

@KyleatYour phone does not have to stay on nor does Bluetooth have to be on on your phone either.  Personally, I turn off Bluetooth and WiFi on my phone while it's charging at night because I don't want to be exposed to the non-heating radiation that Bluetooth and WiFi signals put out.  I know it's low levels, but while I'm sleeping there is no need for that stuff to be on.

Keep in mind that time asleep is when you're actually asleep.  Not the amount of time you're in bed.  Your Fitbit does not literally know you're in bed.  It knows when you're asleep by your heart rate and lack of movement.

Hmm, that might be it. I woke up at 3 and had trouble falling back asleep, but maybe even though it didn’t register any restless time, it still detected it?

@Kyleat  take a close look at your sleep card.  It will tell you when you were asleep and in what sleep stage you were in.  Any time you are awake, even though you're laying in bed, you are probably tossing and turning, it will show that as "awake".

That’s another problem though: regardless of what happens, it says I spent 0 time awake or restless. Which is why I don’t know if it is taking time out and not saying so or what. I also just tried adjusting the time I went to sleep to get a more accurate reading and now it says I only slept between 5 and 2 1/2 hours regardless of when I set the time, even if I set it back to the actual time I started the sleep log (I slept 7 hours last night).

Ok, so after deleting that mangled up sleep log, I entered in a new one and the app suddenly synced to the Fitbit and gave me all the data you guys were talking about, so I guess that’s all I had to do. I’ve been starting the log manually through the app, but it seems like I need to just let it work it’s magic automatically.
