Versa 2 distance tracking accuracy concern

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My daughter who wore a Fitbit charge 4 and I wore my Fitbit versa 2 went for walk today. We started and stopped both at the same time. Her distance was approx 1km longer than mine which was the correct distance as we always go on that walk. How can I calibrate my versa to be more accurate?

Hi @dmtmarsh, welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared. Fitbit devices use the formula below to calculate distance. Your stride length is determined by your height and sex.

Steps x Stride Length = Distance Traveled

When you track an activity with GPS, your device calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, your device calculates distance using your steps until GPS connects. To update your stride length, track a run with GPS or measure your stride length manually. For more information, see Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

Also, for wrist-based devices, it's important to specify whether you wear the device on your dominant or non-dominant wrist during setup:

  • The dominant wrist setting decreases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any over counting of steps when your body is not moving. Your dominant hand is the one you use for writing and eating.
  • The non-dominant wrist setting increases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any under counting of steps.

To start, the Wrist setting is set to non-dominant. Change your wrist setting in the Fitbit app.

Let me know if the issue persists after taking the above into consideration.

I'm having a similar inaccuracy issue. I have recently started using a Versa 2. When I run, I set it to use GPS connected device and start a run in the app, I end up with 2 maps at the end with a discrepancy on distance and therefore pace. One seems to be from the watch on my non-dominant wrist, the other one from my phone - which is in my pocket while I run. Google maps suggests the watch is more accurate, but I don't understand why there would be a discrepancy between 2 devices using the same GPS and almost in the same location?
