Versa 2 is tracking too many steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hello. I noticed that my versa 2 is showing WAY more steps than my iPhone. I generally have them both on me at all times. But we are talking thousands of steps more on the Fitbit. Why would this be the case and how can I fix it? Or which should I trust?

If you always keep your phone in your hip pocket, then that is probably more accurate for step count.  Fitbit, being on your wrist, cannot directly detect steps but can only infer them from regular rhythmic movement of your arms as in walking.  Although it tries to tell the difference, Fitbit can interpret some wrist movements as steps but they usually are not too many, unless you have a particular wrist-based activity such as knitting or drumming or guitar-strumming.  If something like that, you might be better off taking watch off during that time.  But remember that is only step count.  Calorie burn and zone minutes are based on heart rate which is not affected by step count.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Hi @Tlwalks - if you aren't seeing the same steps in the Fitbit App as on your watch, check you haven't also connected the phone as a device on the Fitbit App device page.

Hi there, @Tlwalks. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. It's sad to hear that your Versa 4 is not tracking your steps accurately. I understand where your concern is coming from. We'll be glad to help you with this!

I agree with @JohnnyRow and @Guy_. Plus, I was wondering if by any chance you also have MobileTrack linked to your Fitbit account? If you do, please note that MobileTrack could be tracking those extra steps. To verify this, please in the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab > then tap Devices. In this section you'll see your Versa 4 and below your phone (in case MobileTrack is indeed connected).

If the above describes your situation, you can remove MobileTrack by tapping on the phone's icon and then select "Remove From Account".

Nevertheless, to make sure that your Versa 4 is accurately tracking your steps, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?
