Versa 2 not tracking Sleep Stages

Hi, I got my versa 2 a couple days back but so far it has not been tracking my sleep stages or blood oxygenation and has not been giving me a sleep score.

I have been telling the app when I go to sleep and telling it when I wake up via the ‘Begin Sleep Now’ button which tracks when I’m restlessly sleeping, awake etc. But not much else.

As i understand, the watch autodetects sleep so could it be that telling the app I’m about to sleep is messing me up but I’m not sure.
Thanks in advance, everyone !

Hi @Kelpy04, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared in your post. There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

For more information about why you see your sleep pattern, tap or click the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I am having the same problem. I never get sleep stages. I have tried all the suggestions that Fitbit has offered. Nothing works. The comment that I may be sleeping in a manner that the device can't get a consistent heart rate doesn't help. Tell me how to change the way I sleep.

Me too! When I first started using my Versa 2 I got sleep Stages but since 2nd July 2021 I only get basic information. Nothing was changed at my end and the wear of the device is the same. I have also tried wearing it on the inside of my wrist but cannot see my sleep stages. This is very frustrating and disappointing as it seems to be a device issue so any help would be gratefully received.

So if I do all the things required and the watch is still not recording the sleep cycles wouldn't it be safe to say that either the watch or the app is defective? Mine was working fine then it just quit working so don't try and tell me I'm not wearing it the right way. Something is wrong somewhere. I'm not getting any more info than I was getting from my charge watch. I upgraded for nothing. Will you be buying the watch back from me?

Oh I am sorry if I have confused you. I was agreeing with your observation. I have no association with fitbit but have been given a versa2 as a present and also, like you, find the solution offered by fitbit slightly misleading as mine also doesn't work to record the stages but in the past it has.  I have no idea how to fix this and hoped by posting someone could give guidance. I wish I could get a solution from someone!!

Hi same thing happened to me as well. Was working then stopped. I did everything and I mean everything! Nothing worked. They did replace mine and still doesn’t work unless they sent me a refurbished replacement. Not sure how else to sleep to get this to track my stages! I should still not be having this issue! Next watch will not be a Fitbit!
