Versa 2 randomly adds extra steps when syncing

When I sync my Versa 2 after a walk the wrist device shows say 8434 steps, upon syncing the device to my iPhone 12 it shows 8434 steps too during the sync but when the sync fully completes it has suddenly jumped up to 9679 steps (a real example)! A few seconds later the Versa 2 is then also updated to show 9679 steps on the clock face! These numbers are from yesterday, the day before it added over 800 steps on sync completion - every day I seem to get a different bonus number of steps! 

I've tried changing the wrist settings from non-dominant to dominant and Fitbit live support have helped with full factory resets, deletion/re-load of app etc., and nothing has worked. Fitbit support have now given up and said it is not guaranteed to be accurate and "the operation of the device was not intended to be error free"! It is less than 6 months old and is totally unreliable and not fit for the purpose it was sold. Can anyone help resolve this please?

In this situation, I would recommend updating Customer Support in the same case created previously to get further assistance.

They will let you know how to proceed.
