I've had mine for a year and it's been fine, but suddenly the display dimmed, then broke up and went fuzzy, and now it's full of vertical noise behind which you can just about make out the clockface or keypad display. I restarted it several times, but to no effect, it's just the same. At an educated guess, the device is working OK underneath but the screen has failed. I have no idea if it can be replaced and it's probably out of warranty (it was a gift). If this is a common fault as you say then it's probably best to replace it with some other brand, and avoid FitBit in the future.
