Hi @Linz76, it's nice to see you again in our Community Forums. I am sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate your interest in Fitbit Versa 2 and would like to advise that you can track swimming with this new watch as it is swim-proof in a lake, pool, or ocean (up to 50 meters). You can find more information about the Versa 2 in this post

Regarding the issue with swimming, could you please provide more details? I will be glad to investigate.

Looking forward to your response.

Hi, I am now on Versa number 3 after they all stopped working following swimming. I bought my Versa specifically for swimming and they do not seem to be fit for purpose. I am proposing that Fitbit sends the Versa 2 as a gesture of good will to the customers who have had to return their Versas... and they is a few of them.

Has this issue been addressed and fixed? I have read a few people had this issue. I just got mine like 2 days ago but I dont want it to stop working if it get water on it.

I guess I've been one of the lucky ones. I swim 3 days a week with my versa and have for the past year. I'm cognizant of the problems that some have had, but when I upgrade to the 2 the first thing I'm going to do is jump in the pool. If it breaks I'm getting them to replace it.

Mine is the original Versa. Not version 2. They just send replacements.

Both my Versa and Versa 2 work fine swimming, although for some bizarre reason, on the V2 the lap counter feature has been removed.

Best Answer

Have you contacted customer support and have they confirmed that the lap counting feature has been removed?

Best Answer

lap counting feature is totally not in on versa 2, both them for swimming as well and extremely disappointment by finding up lap  Counting is not in there. I cant understand why it was removed. Customer service is well aware of that from what i seen in the forums.Going to decide withing next few days what to do with the watches. Keeping (adding pool mate 2 ) or returning and getting Garmin.

Yes the Swimovate watches look pretty excellent for swimming and have fantastic reviews.

It’s very odd that they’ve removed perfectly functional features.

I bought the Versa 2 today. My 1st versa ( that I bought on the release date) died from swimming, they sent a new one which died in less than a year. Fitbit wouldn’t replace it and offered a discount on other fitbits - the only one with swim tracking was the ionic and they aren’t even selling the original versa anymore. I was looking for smaller and was misled that the charge 3 did swim tracking, Turns out it doesn’t so I’m returning that, but I decided to pick up the Versa 2 so I can finally get back in the water. Turns out the versa 2 does not actually show you your lap count while you’re swimming. There’s a forum with complaints about every single device fitbit claims can be used for swimming. Why? Because they don’t show your distance. Do you think Fitbit would have actually found a solution if all the runners or other Fitbit users couldn’t see their stats like how many steps they’ve gone or the distance they’ve traveled? Of course they would have because otherwise you’re just wearing an overpriced watch.  People have said for years Fitbit is good at making fitness trackers, bad at making smart watches. A toast to Fitbit for consistency, you’ve now achieved both a poor smart watch and an ineffective fitness tracker.  It takes a lot to lose my loyalty, but I’m frankly disgusted by Fitbit’s customer service towards the swimming community.

I have the exact same problem, so frustrating!

Gutted.  I have been looking forward to the Versa 2 for months and read tonnes of positive reviews.   I have had the Ionic for over a year and loved it - you just can't beat the Fitbit app for being feature rich without being complex.  I wanted to upgrade to get the look of the new watch and the always on display.

Took new Versa 2 for the first swim today and no lap feedback in the pool (only when you get back to the app).  Very disappointing. Also, manually starting the tracking didn't work well in the pool as the touch screen is hit and miss in the water (realised I miss the physical buttons of the Ionic).  Which means you should stick with the Ionic for the physical buttons and on watch lap tracking if you want these features whilst swimming.

Also, expect to spend 5 mins changing the bands as oppose to 1 as the mechanism is much more tricky on the Versa 2.   Even though newer than the Ionic (and a budget option) - it just really feels like a step backward.  Guess I'll have to wait for a new version of the Ionic (if they make one) or god forbid, an Apple Watch or another alterantive.

So disappointed.  Versa 2 being returned tomorrow.

Hi guys, Can someone tell me what the watch physically tells you while you swimming please?

Im on the original versa and it gives me lengths and meters swam which is all I need really. Do the new ‘Versa 2’ still show this?

thanks guys

Best Answer

Just the time during the session. No other stats available. So stay away from Versa 2

For real???? How disappointing is that!

The new one just shows the elapsed time. It’s a major feature downgrade from the Versa - totally inexplicable and very disappointing.

If you like your swimming laps, stick with the original Versa.

Thanks for the reply guys! You’ve saved me £200!!

I’m mind boggled as to why they’d remove the feature, on an ‘upgraded’ version as well! BAFFLED!!

Thanks again guys! (Sort it out Fitbit!)

Hello,

I used my Versa 2 for swimming last week and it continues to work normally since my swim. The only issue I have is that my friend, who uses the Versa 1, is able to see both time and meters on her watch face while swimming, but I can only see time. I want to know how to fix that.

Return Versa 2. Buy original Versa or Ionic.
