The Ionic is the only Fitbit model that has built-in GPS.
Several other models, including the Versa 2, allow you to connect the Fitbit to phone's GPS if you carry phone with you. If you do not use that "connected-GPS", the Versa 2 will calculate the distance approximately as the number of steps times the stride length.
If you were not using phone's GPS connected to Versa 2, I expect your stride length is set too short. Fitbit presets a default stride length based on your height, etc but it varies among people. This link tells how to measure and adjust your stride length
How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?
Instead of measuring your stride length, if you trust the 4.85 mile Ionic reading, you could just multiply your stride length by (4.85/4.03) to get you there or very close.

I assume you were using the built-in GPS on Ionic, right?
With the Versa 2, were you connected to your phone's GPS?
