Versa 2 vs Blaze - Distance calculation

My 3 year old Blaze packed in last night so have replaced with a Versa 2.  Now I am on the Versa 2, there seems to be an issue with the number of miles I am being credited with toward my daily goal.

2 days ago, whilst still using the Blaze, I did 21130 steps, 11110 of which were registered during an Elliptical session. Based on a walking stride length of 27.8" and there being 5280 feet in a mile, the distance calculation would be:

21130 x 27.8 = 587414 inches

587414 / 12 = 48951.17 feet

48951.17 / 5280 = 9.271054 miles.

My Fitbit stats for the day were 9.17 miles, close enough, happy days!

Today, my first full day with the Versa 2, I have done 16361 steps,  12914 of which were registered during an Elliptical session.  The distance calculation would be:

16361 x 27.8 = 454835.8 inches

454835.8 / 12 = 37902.98 feet

37902.98 / 5280 = 7.178595 miles.

My Fitbit stats for the day are 1.81 miles, nowhere near close, I feel like I've been robbed !! 😁

Alarm bells started ringing whilst I was on the Elliptical today.  I've become conditioned to work on the basis that my Fitbit will credit me with a mile every 25 mins or so (2350 steps).  After 25 mins today, the mileage stats hadn't gone up by even 0.1 !!

I'm perplexed why the change in type of Fitbit would have any impact on any basic calculation of Number of steps x stride length = distance ?

p.s. I am aware there is an ongoing debate that there should be a specific "Elliptical stride length" setting, which I would very much welcome.  Having wanted this for over 4 years though, I'm resigned that it isn't going to happen but if I'm cheated out of mileage based on walking stride length, it's not going to be very conducive to motivation.

p.p.s.  Please can we have an option to include GPS cycling miles toward daily goals !!  Not everyone is a runner !!
