Versa 3 - Counting 33,000 plus steps while in Charger

This is the third time this has happened. I have NO confidence in the way that this thing counts my steps. Last night I charged my Versa 3 and when I went to put it on it already had 33,744 steps. I tried all the things they have put on this site and none of it worked. The Versa 3 was out of range of my phone installed in the charger.  Restarted and perfomed a factory reset but no luck. Removed the device completely and reinstalled and installed latest Firmware. It randomly gives me thousands and thousands of steps at least 1 day a week. Now what?

Mine has recently started doing this as well. My steps have not reset since Saturday with multiple troubleshooting tried. I just had to get a replacement Versa 3 and now this. I have only had for 1 week. I am hoping someone has an idea of how to fix this.

I traded mine in today at Best Buy and purchased a Samsung 4. My last
fitbit only lasted two years before having a problem and I've only
had this one a year and a half and it's toast. Time to try something else.
