I've had my Versa 3 for just over a year, and yesterday it overestimated steps during a walk, then corrected itself. Today, it has done the same overestimation, but failed to correct it. When I look at the App, the steps counting during a walk seem appropriate, but the daily total is 1000s more than it should be. The total for today is apparently 30,010, but the 5 periods of walking total only 18,542 (1,376 + 1,419 + 11,787 +3,147 + 813). There's no way that I have done 13,000 incidental steps! I've tried rebooting the watch twice and restarting the app and my phone. Maybe the 3-axis accelerometer is faulty???

I think this is exactly what's happening. They're at least phasing out the ones where they've introduced the problems with the update. The battery on my Versa 3 drains quickly now and it massively overcounts steps.

This has been happening to me the last few days as well. I use an iphone13. I have been doing bigger walks & thought the extra I was doing was so good at 13745 steps, get home sit down for 20 minutes and it drops down to 7656 🙁 🤦🏻:female_sign: I have also reset both phone and Fitbit but it didn’t solve the issue as it’s happened twice more

My wife is experiencing the same erratic step count issue on her Versa 3. She first noticed it last week.
She has a model FB511 running v36.128.6.17 and her phone is a Pixel 6a running Android v15 build AP4A.250205.002.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Mike

Hi everybody. Thank you all for sharing the info needed.
I already pass this to our team, so they can now progress with their investigation. They will work on a solution for this.
Hopefully this gets solved soon.
We will be updating the thread as soon as we receive more information.

Mine has been doing this for several days. Never quite sure what my actual steps are at this point. Tonight while exercising it jumped from 8000 to over 10000, then corrected back down to just over 8000, and now has jumped to over 14000. I KNOW I didn't walk 14000 steps today! Oddly it had been working seemingly fine until about a week ago.
Samsung S24+
Just checked and now after sitting for 10 +/- minutes and it's back down to a little over 10000, which is within reason. Sharing everyone's frustration!

@ManuFitbit
Its clearly noting to do with what phone app version people are using and we all seem to be on the same device version 36.128.6.17
can you please confirm that you can reproduce the problem on your testbeds and provide some indication of when we might expect a fix?
Is it possible fir us to roll back to a previous version of the device firmware?
a few days ago when i tried to report the issue using a chat session i mentioned it was affecting dozens of users, but in reality its probably thousands, and many may be unaware its affecting them.
I’m inundated with emails every time someone comments here so I’m going to try to opt out as soon as i get a response from you.
thank you!

Same thing happening to me with my Versa 3. Started on 22nd February.
I first noticed it when I got the 10K steps notification way too early in a regular walk. I then watched the watch add 2K steps in little over 100 yards.
The thing that I find very strange is that the watch and the main screen of the app show the inflated steps, but the step screen (that has the daily, weekly, etc.) shows the correct (or at least more accurate steps). So the step count is working somewhere.
I'm using a Google Pixel 8 and Android 15.
PS. While you're fixing this, please remove the very, very annoying Cardio Load messages.

Same issues here with step count accelerating and then when synching with the app the step count drops significantly (I think to the correct value). I already have a the separate issue where periodically the phone loses bluetooth connectivity to the watch and requires a "force stop" before the phone can reconnect. It seems each recent Fitbit software upgrade brings new problems after initially being stable for the first 18 months of ownership. .
Motorola Moto G55 running Android 15 and Fitbit Versa 3. Fitbit App version 4.36.1 updated on 12th Feb.

Using a Samsung S24+ with Android 14. Same problem as everyone else massive over reporting on my Versa 3 of steps taken during a workout but, after the fact. Reports far to many in the counter and on the front of "steps today" but when you enter steps today it will show the correct count. Watch is copying whats in the app. Often corrects itself about 30 min.

Add me to the list of people this has been happening to. I have tried to "fix it" by restarting my watch, and changing the clock face. As crappy as this is, I am relieved to know it isn't just happening to me. I was about to go buy a new watch. I am hoping they rectify this problem soon, as it IS VERY annoying!
