Versa 3 tracking too many steps while driving

I am a lorry driver (only local deliveries) and for some reason my Versa 3 counts steps as I'm driving I get around 15000 steps a day but I know I don't get anyway near this, I physically watched my Fitbit steps going up as I was driving down the motorway but wasn't actually moving my arm.

Is there anyway I can stop this or is fitbits not for people who do driving jobs?

Hi there, @Markw9362. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Versa 3. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Please not wrist trackers count steps depending on the movement of your arms. Fitbit has worked hard to make sure that our devices do not pick up false steps or activity recordings while driving. Unless you're driving in a car with a very stiff transmission or on bumpy roads, your device should not give you false readings. You can learn more about how your Fitbit tracks steps by checking the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?

However, there are 2 ways you can prevent this from happening while you drive:

1. You can plug your tracker into the charging cable while you are driving -- the Fitbit will not count steps while it is charging.
2. As @Rufous44 has suggested, you can log the driving manually by following the steps in this article

Hope that helps.

@Markw9362 you're beating a dead horse.

Fitbit has always measured steps while driving and the only possible way to correct it is to log a driving session afterwards that override the steps taken.

The solution is very much a patchwork as for example during your drive you might stops several times for deliveries (I'm not sure about your job so I'm just making hypothesis) and thus accumulate real steps and of course you can't easily manage this.

Frankly speaking with all the sensors that nowadays the smartphone has it shouldn't be so difficult to differentiate the type of steps so this work could be then directly by Fitbit app.

Also an optimization of the Fitbit algorithm could be sufficient to differentiate true steps from fake ones but....
