Versa-Inaccurate steps counted with Connected GPS

I've been looking for a new fitness watch with a sleek design and smartwatch features such that I'm keen to wear it all day, and the Versa looked like a great option. Bought it a couple of days ago - but since I can't find any real answers being provided to people with these same major issues, I am on my way to logging a return for this. This is unfortunately also a major dent in Fitbit's reputation for me, and I will probably never purchase one again and advise anyone who is interested to do the same. In my brief time using this, I have found two major issues:

1. The connected GPS keeps on losing connection. I tested this on both a run and a couple of cycles. Made sure all settings on my phone is fine, no battery saving, no nothing. Extremely irritating when you see the "Connecting..." on your wrist almost permanently - and the results were proof of this - on a 65km cycle, Fitbit registered about 25km of it. I even put Strava on manually on my phone as well at the same time - to be able to compare and to make 100% sure my phone is forced to keep its GPS running - Strava matches perfectly with the little bike computer I have but the Versa is 40km out.
2. Very inaccurate step count. Up till now, I've been using a cheapish Garmin fitness watch, quite old by now, but almost perfect step count. On a 400km drive, the Versa picked up 4000 steps. I know that especially offroading can do this, but we're talking highways, on normal suspension. Having to go log "Driving" to get those steps cancelled should not be necessary. On a cycle, I got 10 000 steps after about 20km of cycling - if I even tell the Versa that I am cycling, it should really not be counting steps...

The Versa looks like a really nice watch, with a great balance between fitness and smartwatch features, sleek design, etc. - I am really saddened by the fact that it just does not work at all. Will have to go look at Garmin's options again.

Hello @pklue, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums, for sharing your experience and voicing your feedback. I understand some of you are having trouble with connected GPS on your Versa. If you have already checked the requirements and troubleshooting steps listed on this help article, I would like to suggest you the following:

  • Instead of restarting your phone, force-quit the Fitbit app and open it again.
  • Turn off WiFi before starting a GPS activity.
  • If you're using an Android phone, make sure Location Services are set to "Always" under the Fitbit app.
  • If you're using an iPhone, go to the phone Settings > Fitbit and make sure Location Services are set to "Always" Additionally, go to Setting > General  > Restrictions and check they're disabled.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding, I hope these steps can be helpful. Give them a try and keep me updated.
