Versa Lite suddenly dead

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi, I couldn’t find any threads about the Versa Lite going dead. It was at 92% battery life this morning, and tracked my run until about 3 hrs ago. Now the screen is blank, nothing flashes on the back, and putting it on the charger did nothing.

I tried resetting by holding down the button for at least 10 seconds several times, but no love yet.  I only use it with my iPhone, no computer.

i just got this for Christmas, and was really starting to enjoy it! I did a FW update, but that was when I first took it out of the book.

Please advise soonest. Unhappy. 😞

My replacement Versa Lite has already shipped. Sad I have to wait but I hope this one is from a different lot, and more robust.

I am on my second Versa Lite in two months. I ordered the first one end of November and it died on the very last day I could get it replaced. The new one has died two days AFTER the replacement/refund period. Exactly the same issue - suddenly totally dead, black screen, won't charge, nothing at all. Amazon has said they will discuss it with the manufacturer (Fitbit I assume) when I get home from holiday. I really like my Versa Lite but I am very loath to get yet another one if this just keeps happening. Does anyone have any advice? Is it just Versa Lite this happens with or all Fitbits? Has anyone tried an Apple Watch? Thanks in advance!

I messaged Fitbit directly for support and they were very helpful. When all their suggestions to help failed, they sent me a new Fitbit.

Thank you! I bought it through Amazon and they said they will help. But my
worry is that both Fitbits died within a month of purchase!

I've been a Fitbit user for years.  Have only had issues with my Fitbit versa lite. I had the one for years and then an alta and alta hr. No problems. I'm on my 2nd versa lite within 1 year. Horrible

I purchased my Versa Lite through QVC on 10/20/19.   Use it all the time.  During the night it DIED.  On my phone it shows moderately charged.  Went to bed about 9:00, it recorded my heartbeat until about midnight.  This morning, absolutely nothing, held the 'back' button, the only button on it, nothing! Tried to charge it, nothing!  What can I do?

I"m sorry. I can't actually remember how I got hold of support (but when I
did they were good!) They have a "no-reply" address when they email.

Hi @Khaskhist, welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided about your watch's behavior. I'll be glad to help you.

The battery on your watch may not be charging properly and therefore does not turn on or even it's causing a battery drain. I recommend that you follow these steps:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?

Please make sure to check them out and let me know if the issue persists. If such is the case, my best recommendation will be to get in touch directly with our Technical Customer Support department here. Also, I can contact them for you if necessary, just mention me and I'll move forward with the request.

Though, if the steps provided in the post don't work but you have either the Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I'd recommend performing a Factory Reset as follows (note that when doing a factory reset you'll need to reinstall any apps on your device after, and if you couldn’t sync your device, then any data on the Fitbit device will be lost from the last time sync until now):

  1. Hold the back button for about 8 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo disappears:
    1. Release the button briefly (for less than 2 seconds).
    2. Hold the button again until you feel a second, longer vibration, which indicates you initiated the factory reset.

You can follow the steps to set up the device after that: How do I set up my Fitbit device?

Thanks for helping out @madharper!

I'll be around, keep me posted.

Thanks for that. Pretty interesting about cleaning. However mine was
TOTALLY dead. ie this bit ~ "Hold the back button for about 8 seconds.
When the Fitbit logo disappears" was totally irrelevant for me as I didn't
have a logo showing. It was just a black screen which did not respond to
anything at all.

Hello, I just left it overnight. Tried this morning and it started up. Held the left button down longer. It is now updating. I have no idea why this happened. I did clean it on the back. That was a suggestion from tech support.; however I tried that several times and nothing happened. We will see if this update works. I was ready to give up on it. It is just under a year old. Not sure if I would invest in another Fitbit.
