I'm actually extremely disappointed by Fitbit and how inaccurate the step/stair counting is. It is constantly logging extra steps when I'm sleeping, brushing my hair, or even scratching an itch. I've read that you can log driving to delete inaccurate steps but I don't want to have to do that everytime I go to sleep. I've also read I can change the sensitivity but I don't know how and don't have access to a computer. I also only go up about 2 flights of stairs a day but its counting that I go up 3 or 4. It isn't worth it to me if it isn't accurate.

@Adaus7 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I hope you're doing well!
I will gladly assist you with this. As you mentioned your arm movement is a factor when detecting steps and you can log a driving activity to remove them. You can change the sensitivity settings on the Fitbit app for phones by tapping the top right icon, then your tracker's icon and finally Wrist Placement.
Regarding the floors, your device uses it's altimeter to detect variance in altitude. It will count 1 floor for every 10 ft it detects you climbed. There are situations that may affect the floor count like stormy weather (that has an actual impact on atmospheric pressure), gusts of wind, an AC unit in a closed room or opening a door. I suggest you start by cleaning the back of the device with cotton and rubbing alcohol then use compressed air at a distance to clear the altimeter's opening. Finally restart it.
Let me know how it goes.

Best AnswerHello, I was able to fix the stair count simply by restarting the Fitbit. Every once in a while it stops again. As for the step count, I've tried several things. The sensitivity setting is normal and I tried adjusting my stride length. It seemed to help a little but still inaccurate. I know it's not going to be perfect but it still bothers me. For example, I waited till midnight to go to sleep so my step count would be at zero but when I woke up I had almost 100 steps! I refuse to log driving every time I sleep. I shouldn't have to do that for my Fitbit to be accurate.
Im having the same problems. I already have over 4,000 steps today and I babysat my Grandchild which was mostly sitting and now we are sitting at a picnic. I am so disappointed in this fitbit. Calling on Tuesday for a refund. I will by a Microsoft again. It worked great.
You know, I never noticed this problem until I moved my Versa from my non-dominant hand to my dominant one. Recently (or maybe I just noticed) record setting steps. I saw it also recording hand movements. I have put it back on my non-dominant hand and changed it back to non-dominant setting, and it appears to stop counting phantom steps.
Try that and see if it works.

Best AnswerIt’s on my non dominant hand. I have versa 2. This is confusion. Was was putting my daughter to sleep and it counted my hand movements as steps. Do we have any fix for this ?
Best Answersleeping - 2000 steps
washing hands - 20 steps
a day in home office (lot's of typing, drinking coffee, lunch and not even going out from home) - 6000 steps and about 3 km
washing a few dishes - 300 steps
climbing 2 floors - fitbit shows 10 floors
Hand is set to dominant, but wearing on non-dominant hand.
wow - that's an impressive quality by Fitbit.
Best AnswerSame problem, I wake up with 30-50 steps already counted. It counts hand motions/arm movement throughout the day. I wear mine on my dominant hand but it is set that way in the settings. Wish it was more accurate.
