Versa keeps dying

I am on my third versus replacement. I am wondering if anyone else is having difficulties with their versa needing to be replaced every three months? I only swim once a week but it seems to happen after I go swimming. I recently purchased the charge three and was hoping that it was more waterproof than the versa appears to be. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hey @Northof49, it is great to see you around more often! This is odd. What is exactly happening with your Versa? Does the display turns off all of the sudden, it won't charge or the battery seems to be draining too fast?

Let me know, maybe I can help you out with this. 😉

It dies usually after a swim - the first time it just crashed and you could see fog in the heart rate sensors so it was definitely water damage. The second time it was again after a swim. My watch did an update in the middle of the night, started not tracking my sleep properly and then the screen glitched to just coloured lines.

@Northof49 this has been reported by other users on this forum. There's an extremely lengthy thread detailing this issue.

Thank you. I read through part of it and was disheartened. Hopefully they consider recalling the product and replacing it with a water proof version.

Thanks for your reply @Northof49! The Fitbit Versa is swim proof and track swims, which means that is water resistant to 50M for wear in the pool or rain. Tracks laps, duration and calories burned during swim workouts. Did you try to restart your Versa to fix the inconvenience with the display? In the meantime, I want to thank you for your feedback. Please note that your comments are very important to us, since they help us out to know which areas we need to improve to give one of the best fitness experiences.

@Marrrmaduke, thanks for your help!

Have a nice day!

My second versa died as well- first one lasted just over 90 days, finally had gotten replacement and now we’re probably just over 90 again. Won’t charge and tried restarting. I had taken it on vacation so only light water use (sitting by pool- running- just as much water wear as usual) but died in plane ride back- zero battery notice then it only gets hot on charger. I use this device as a work Pager so I don’t look like I’m on my phone so I’m very disappointed. My pebble never had an issue- maybe use some of their tech you bought to make a stable device. Until then- I’ll be looking at iwatch if you’re using your customers as beta testers? Ugh. So sad.

Clearly these aren't dependably water resistant.  While my watch didn't completely die, when I swim with it, the battery dies while I"m swimming or very soon after, even when it was fully charged before.  I've read a lot of the threads here about batteries dying and water resistance and the company clearly isn't living up to its marketing claims.

Very disappointing.

For now, I"m just going to stop wearing it while I swim, which was part of why I had bought it.

My third Fitbit is a Garmin Vivoactive 3. So far it hasn’t died, hasn’t burned my wrist, and I can swim and it doesn’t break. I highly recommend.

Im on my 4th fitbit Versa replacement in 10 months! This seems to be an inferior product, a $200 disposable item?  When my warranty is up & they will no longer send me free replacements when my Versa breaks every few months, I will definitely put my money elsewhere.

Fitbit should do something extra for me, other then repeatedly tell me 'We're so sorry ..." They should offer a free upgrade instead of only ofering me 50% off a replacement of the newest model, or at least a free watchband.

Having a working Versa has been a HUGE inconvienience! Please note that I DO NOT wear in the pool or shower, nor have I done anything that would damage the watch.

Versa #1: Lasted 4 months, its display was squggly & shakey, and was opening apps by itself.

Replacement Versa  #2: Lasted 1 month, began blacking out but still syncing & reading pulse, then completely died & got hot on the charger.

Replacement versa #3: Lasted 5 months, had white lines down the left & right sides of the display with white area in the bottom right corner.

Replacement versa  #4 on its way.....   story to be continued........

Lastly,  on to the new "fitbit pemium" product. Not only have I invested over $200, spent countless hours on the phone to customer service & programming new watches, but now I'm expected to pay an additional $10 per month to use all the features ot the Fitbit "FREE" app?

I am beyond frustrated.

I decided I was finally done with the Fitbit and the revolving door of broken product. I bought a Vivoactive3 from Garmin and haven't looked back! Also- you can wear Vivoactive3 in the pool/shower without a problem. It's been going strong for over a year now- got my husband one too back in March and he's also enjoyed it without problems (he didn't want to go smartwatch until he saw one that I used that wasn't defective all the time).

👍🏻 I hear you. I'm on Versa #3 & experienced the same as you. I did turn off the auto-display so now I only see the display when I push the button. Charging lasts WAAAYYYY longer this way (yay). I also take off the Fitbit on the regular & dry off the back & band; just doing all I can think of to ensure it doesn't break down-> AGAIN 😐

Exact same thing keeps happening to me! I’m now on my 4 Versa in 18 months

Why isn't Fitbit dealing with this ? Versa OBVIOUSLY has a design flaw- however, their only response is to replace it every few months ??!

I’ll definitely moving to an Apple Watch when the warranty is finished! It’s just as shame as I do like the Fitbit but the companies response isn’t good enough and I refuse to spend more money with them on a different model.

This is an evergreen topic.

Basically, Fitbit doesn't condone sweating on their bands.  Fitbit doesn't like water near their 50m-resistant watches.

Some people have no trouble...until they do.  Just hope you're in warranty because they won't ever let us know about an actual performance issue.  Just my experience using them.

I've kinda concluded that moisture may be the issue- so with this THIRD Fitbit- I've been hyper-vigilant about keeping it dry & not leaving for too long on the charger- hoping these things will help it last 😉

It's totally the water.  It may be *hot* water or steamy water...or some seal gets toggled the wrong way.

I've sweated a Versa to death.

Well since the Versa users seem to have identified the water issue- one would think that Fitbit would take notice and make the necessary adjustments to their design 😉
