Versa not tracking heart rate to sleep & now it's not tracking steps either

I've only had this device for a week and unfortunately, the help section isn't helpful at all.  I've submitted a help request, but no one has responded.

 

  • The heart on my Fitbit has been gray since I got it.  The "help" says "Your watch is searching for a stronger reading, and normal tracking should resume shortly."  Does this searching really take more than a week?  When is it going to actually start working?  And why is that the only suggestion for a greyed-out heart?
  • There is no sleep tracked at all on my Fitbit.  It appears that I have to TELL it when I've fallen asleep, which is ridiculous.  My Charge just knew and reliably kept track of everything.  I wanted more features, so I purchased more expensive devices.  It's starting to feel like the more expensive device you buy, the less likely it is to work.
  • Now - there are NO steps, NO stairs, NO miles recorded - the only thing it's showing is how many calories I've burned.  I bought this specifically to track my steps and my sleep.  I know it's connected because the clock and alarms work.  I could have spent a lot less on a watch if that's all I wanted.

I'm very frustrated because searching these help forums always shows the most helpful answer as "this has been resolved - thanks for your patience" but doesn't explain how it was resolved, why it happened, and what I can do to resolve it.  When you have 50+ people reporting the same problem, directing them to a chat who is just going to tell them to restart, factory reset and when neither of those work, that they'll tell someone to email me.  I purchased TWO devices, spending several hundred dollars, one for myself and one for my husband, and NEITHER of them works correctly.  The Versa Lite is stuck on a perpetual "Download the app" screen and the Versa isn't syncing or recording my data. This is after my husband's Blaze stopped holding a charge a few weeks after the warranty ran out.

 

Is there ANY way to get help for this?  Or do I just return them and try a different brand?
