Hi @SunsetRunner. Glad you found us here on the forums. When this happened to me, I discovered that I had somehow turned the heart rate feature off. Please check that yours is on by swiping right on your Versa to Settings. Tap it, then swipe to Heart Rate. Make sure it is set to on.
If this does not resolve the problem, then let us know exactly what you see when you open the Fitbit app to sleep settings. Provide a screen shot if you can. Also let us know which phone you are syncing to.

@SunsetRunner Welcome! It's great to see you around!
Sorry to hear that your Versa isn't recording your sleep. As @SunsetRunner explained the heart rate is part of the requirements for sleep stages detection but if you device isn't recording sleep at all then I would like to explain the process. Your device will start recording sleep after it detects an hour of inactivity. If you have a light sleep or move too much then this may difficult your sleep detection. Additionally you can try wearing your device on your non dominant hand to decrease the amount of movement it is subjected to. Finally you can restart your device. You can also manually log your sleep time.
Let me know how it goes.
