Versa notifications not being consistent

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Is anyone else having the same issue as me? The notifications for text messages and other notifications were working on my Versa. They now keep stopping. I have to then go into notifications on my app and it keeps saying phone restart. I restart my phone and then it works for a while, then it stops again. I should not have to keep restarting me phone every hour for the notifications to work. It seems Fitbit have quite a few small issues with the Versa.

I was told this......

After the altimeter started acting finicky last night and then completely
stopped counting floors this morning, along with the ongoing notification
issues, I decided to factory reset my Versa today. Ever since the factory
reset everything has been working very well.

I completely unpaired from the app and my phone Bluetooth before starting
the reset, and otherwise left all the app settings as they were, so all the
sync settings and keep alive widget are still on (I'm running Android 8.1
so even though I've allowed the app to run in the background I figure it
couldn't hurt to leave the widget on for a while, might try turning it off
soon though). So far so good, notifications work, Bluetooth music controls
work, fitness tracking seems accurate again haven't had to force sync or
pair again at all today.

Can't help but wonder if the issues had anything to do with excess
tinkering. I've only had the Versa for a couple weeks maybe, and of course
I had to try dozens of watch faces and mess around with it constantly while
learning what it can do. Now that my curiosity has settled down maybe it'll
just work. I hope I didn't just jinx it by saying that.

No, issues have everything to do with the fact that Fitbit had put an unbaked product in the market, and we are all Beta testers for them. “Big May Update” will, clearly, be what should have been V1 of the software, even that only if we’re lucky.

you should be able to tinker with your tracker all you like. My 12-year old has Samsung watch and that’s all he ever does, tinker with it. I didn’t see it stop working in a year or so...

I don't disagree with you, and I'm only speculating when I say that. But
bear in mind this is a young platform and Samsung has been at it a lot
longer and probably has a bigger budget. Samsung isn't without faults
though.

Understanding that software development is often characterized by a minimum
viable product and incremental ongoing enhancements, I'm not rushing out to
return my Versa despite the issues I've had (which have not returned since
I did the reset, by the way). It's software, it's going to break, that's
the nature of it. So long as it can be fixed, issues can be moved
past/forgotten about.

Overall I'm very happy with the Fitbit fitness platform as a whole and plan
to stick with it.

Mine duplicate and are inconsistent but otherwise they're coming through. Support has a ticket open for me but they didn't send me an email yet to send screenshots I took of duplicating msgs

Hi, I may have come across a workaround, I noticed the notifications stopped after changing watchfaces, so I restarted the watch after changing face and it seems to be working so far (has to be done after every change, or once you've decided to go with one). I hope this helps until fitbit get there act together. This is such a frustrating issue after having such a robust system on the pebble platform.

I'm sorry to report that after the factory reset and notifications working
flawlessly all day yesterday, as of this morning they aren't working again.
I don't know if it's because I have it set to disable notifications while
sleeping, or if sleep mode in general is breaking them even when left on,
frustrating either way. The May update can't come soon enough.

@Kwbrt, I've been using the same clock face since setting up my watch, yet I am having the inconsistent notification issue. If the clock face has anything to do with the problem, then the problem has multiple causes. While it's possible the restart fixed it, I don't think the clock face is what broke it.

Hi, yes, sorry, I jumped the gun when things worked for a while, again apologies, hopefully things will get fixed sooner rather than later...

My latest test:

  • All-Day Sync - Off (because it's going to automatically sync every time you open the app anyway)
  • Always Connected - On
  • Keep-Alive Widget - On (for now)

My thinking is that the All-Day Sync is potentially causing interference with push notifications because the frequency just creates more opportunity for communication failure.  I also observed that whenever trying to run a test call notification while syncing was in progress it would never go through, so I figured turning this off might free up the app to communicate with the Versa more efficiently/as-needed.  We'll see how it goes...

I've never had All Day Sync turned on, and I have still had issues with notifications. Sorry to say, I don't think that's it.

Experiencing the same on my Versa. Tried to restart iPhone, and recharged Versa without any luck.

So yesterday I had zero problems with notifications not working, using the settings I posted earlier. It works most of the time like this.

This morning I had the latest firmware update - now things should get interesting! First impressions are very good - quick replies are present, clearing a message on the watch also clears it on the phone. There's also a delete option for emails - this takes a few seconds to process, and when you use the delete button on the notification, it dumps you back to the notification list, but the one you deleted is still there for a while. Personally I think it should get removed immediately and deleted in the background, as it's possible to go back to it and keep trying to delete it, but it's not a huge deal once you realise.

So far notifications have been coming in very quickly and I've had no issues yet... fingers crossed!!

Haven't received the Versa firmware update yet, but after getting the Android app update to 2.71 on 5/1 I have to say notifications are much improved.
