I'm looking for watches for my kids for Christmas. they at and 10 and 8. Looking at different watches by different makers. My kids don't have phones and won't in the near future either. Do these watches have to be synced to a phone? IPhone 3 and 5 require a phone to sync for updates. If these watches are connected to home wifi will they automatically update ? Thanks for help

Hello @ak6294 first of all, children must have the Ace 2 style of Fitbit in order to use the Family Account. Due to various laws in the United States and some European Countries, children are limited to which devices and how the accounts are set up. In order to see the stats and sync, there must be a mobile device or computer that has internet access. These devices can only sync via the Fitbit app, which requires bluetooth and will sync automatically every twenty minutes or so, as needed. You can use one phone to set up and sync multiple devices, but you'd still need a Family Account (and the Ace 2) for your children. Were you, the adult, getting the Versa?

I do not have a versa, I use a different maker, howerver I was hoping to get the Versa for my children. If I have an account set up on my home computer the Versa could sync to it?
Thanks for your help

Children cannot use the Versa. They would need to use the Ace2.

See my first post to you in this thread? It is the law that many countries set up to protect children. Accounts for minors (13 and under in the USA and 16 and under in the European countries) cannot be set up for a Fitbit. Click to see the guidelines for use. Anyway, the Versa would be too big for the children and the algorithms are made for adults. You'd have to lie and say the kids are over 13 in order for the Versa to be set up for them. If you lie to set up the account, the stride would be off, too. These devices use the gender, age, height and weight to determine many things. It wouldn't give you accuracy for a child if it's set up as though an adult was using it. Children of those ages will lose devices. You really want to risk the loss of the pricier Fitbit when the Ace 2 has all that they could need at that age? I think I've explained it as much as I know how.
