Versa screen separates from body of the watch

I purchase my wife a new Versa, to replace her lost Charge 2.  It lasted about two weeks, until the screen fell off the body of the watch.

She was not doing anything energetic, just standing in a queue, when the screen separated.

Now about a month later, it has happened again. No strenuous activity just getting out of the car with handbags etc. Screen just fell off the body of the watch.

The first incident we just put down to bad luck and we were able to get it replaced by the Retail Seller (who said they had never heard the like before).  But to have it again within a month with nothing that my wiffe was doing to explain why the Versa would fall apart.  It wasn’t bumped, hit or otherwise rough handling.

This quality issue is a major concern and she is worried about wearing it least it should happen again and she doesn’t notice until way to late.

Apart from the unexplained trend for the Versa to fall apart on her, my wife was very happy with it, its features, battery life and all.

Would anyone else have experienced something like this

David

This has happened to me twice as well. I do t do anything with it that I'm not supposed to. I swim with it but dont wear it in the shower, hot tub or steam room/sauna. I'm not sure why this keeps happening and customer support was unable to give me an answer as to why. Luckily I am still under warranty and they are replacing my Fitbit for a second time.

@Vasadams ,

Can I confirm that it was the original Versa that you had and not the Versa 2?  I haven’t heard that the Versa 2 has this same problem that the original has and that seems to indicate to me that Fitbit have indeed found the error and fixed it in the new model, but just don’t want to come out and admit it and face calls for a total recall and replacement of all the remaining original Versa’s

Yes, I only have the Versa. Not the Versa 2.

Well I can confirm it happens to Versa 2. It just happened to mine overnight. Screen popped off and now just displays a blank white screen when I try to display the time.   Bought in January 2020.

Well today is the 3rd time this has happened to me. Each time, it breaks in just about the 1 year mark. The last time which was June 5, 2019 they told me that they wont replace it again. I love the watch and app but now I have to find a different brand. I am so disheartened...any suggestions?

Oh no! I considered getting the Versa 2 (have the first version) but since it happens with the Versa 2 also, I guess there is not point! Thanks for you post.

@erc_versa ,
Sorry that it happened to you, but it confirms my worst fear that Fitbit have not resolved the issue with the Versa screen.  Maybe they have improved its security, but not completely resolved it.

Would appreciate hearing how you go with the warranty.

Hi Cartref,

They had me send pictures and took a while to respond but since I was still under warranty they sent me a new one. I am trying a screen protector this time to see if that works.

I am hard on watches, but mine just fell apart while swimming in a 10x30 pool with the kids.

This happened to my versa today, 13 months from purchase date. Very sad day.

They had me mail it back which I finally did after delays due to Covid-19.  I miss checking my sleep score in the morning.  I remember when we used to sleep without getting scored every night. 😊

I purchased the Versa when they first came out. I experienced screen issues and received a replacement as it was still under warranty. Three months later my replacement screen started bleeding. I could not receive another replacement because Fitbit honors the warranty from the first day of purchase and the warranty expired. Now I am experiencing the screen falling apart. My watched stopped working immediately after. I love my Fitbit Versa and it’s heartbreaking to see how poorly they were made.

It really does suck! I decided to go with the Samsung Active watch and si far so good...

The same thing happened to my Versa.  So obviously fitbit is making a poor product.  This is the 2nd time I've had to replace my Versa.  I replace the Charge 2 twice as well.  I contacted Fitbit and they said my watch was out of warranty because they go by the original purchased date.  So even though my replacement Versa broke after 5 months they can only offer me 25% off the next purchase.  I won't invest another penny in fitbit.  I'm done.

This has just happened to me with a Versa bought in April 2019. I don’t swim, never used it underwater (not even just to test it), do very moderate activities and I was sleeping when this happened - woke up to find the screen separated, but still joined to the rest of the Versa.  While I’m glad to see that I am not the only one, I am extremely disappointed that this is a problem that has gone on for some years and Fitbit appears not to be addressing the problem. Plan to change brands and will not be recommending Fitbit ( as I was doing) anymore.

Yep, Its been a consent piss off to me since I started this topic a number of years ago.

But I will say that I changed to the Charge 3 for my wife and then latter upgraded my Charge 2 to the Charge 4, my eldest son also swapped to the Charge 3.

None of us have had any problems with that problem, apart from the occasional need to reset the sync between iPhone & Charge device

Sad, no you are not alone in this dilemma.
You are correct, it has been an ongoing problem with no solution.

Wish you well!

I Had my Fitbit a little over 1 year and it just popped open yesterday. I can't believe this has happened to so many people and they have yet to acknowledge that they had a faulty product. Due to this issue and the fact that they are not resolving it I will no longer be using their products or recommending them.

I feel the same way! But someone told me to try using a protective cover to see if it will keep the face on. I purchased a 2 pack from Amazon for under $10 and that worked. But you have to take the cover off to charge it. When this Fitbit breaks I will not replace it! I started with the Charge model and the t broke so many times I decided to try the Versa and it broke twice. Neither lasted a year but because this one was a replace my they wouldn’t honor the warranty even though the face fell off in 5 months.

If a vehicle has a faulty part on ALL models they recall it and replace it. I won’t give Fitbit another dime!

I started with the charge as well and it’s still working. I’ve experienced breakage with the band (which is not Replaceable). Other then that, the Charge was made a lot better then the Versa. I use it as my backup and apply safety pins to hold the band in place. I enjoy my Fitbit weekly challenges and will miss the people I challenge. Do anyone else know of any smart watches that offer the same benefits? Maybe I will see if my close friends that experience the same issues with Fitbit are willing to change.
