Just wondering what causes this? Is it a fault? Or is it in attempt to get sales on versa 3 up?

just wondering

Hi @Ian.N, it's great to see you in our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear that the screen of your Fitbit Versa became black and it won't turn on. Regarding your question, this is not an attempt to get sales on the new Versa 3. I totally understand how you feel about this. However, I'd like to follow up on the issue that your watch is experiencing and provide a solution to get you back on track.

Please let me know if your Versa vibrates when you put it on the charger. In the meantime, try the troubleshooting steps that are listed in this help article. After this, charge your watch for 2-3 hours and see if it comes back to life.

Looking forward to your response.

It vibrates in the cradle.

it vibrates on notifications

It vibrates with a phone call

I have been through every trouble shooting guide.
The screen lights up but remains black, however, the glorious Fitbit logo does come on and to me is showing that the screen is still functioning and that this is an issue of Fitbit. The watch is now on charge and I will contact you Mr JuanJoFitbit in 3 hours.

Having the same problem. The watch seems working as it vibrates on notifications, connects to the app and has the green ohr light on, but the screen keeps staying black and won't turn on. Tried many restarts and no success. Fitbit support gave me no solution for this and won't replace the watch as the warranty expired in may 2020. So disappointing! I read comments from users saying that this might be a software issue related to the latest update affecting the screen. The support confirmed that it might be and a new update might resolve the issue but didn't give any info about a possible bug and no new update release expected at the moment. A new Fitbit OS firmware was released but, surprise surprise, is available ONLY for Versa 3 and Versa Sense. All the other fitbit smartwatches including Versa won't receive it.

Same for me

Many peoples have this problem in same time, I think it's the new firmware update to 70.8.0 the problem.

It’s now 10 hours since you were so interested in helping me, lucky my iPhone still works to tell the time.
so many people saying the same thing about their versa, firmware!!!

If that is the case, and you are leaving the versa out of development now then I put it to you sir, this is a Fitbit issue that Fitbit is failing to rectify on the older units, instead offering discounts on a time limit to your loyal Fitbit Community, what a pity you aren’t showing the same loyalty.

I will not be purchasing another Fitbit product under these circumstances. It would have to be 50% and an indefinite time to use it, after all, as my watch screen fails to show me the date.

They want people to upgrade, phone companies have been doing it for years. We aren’t any use to Fitbit if we don’t buy new products. Even with their offer of a discount they will still be making money, and this is for a cheap trick of introducing a bug into the firmware. I really don’t care about what they say to that now, we all know our devices were work fine until the update, and even announcing the bug fix is only for versa 3 shows their acknowledgement of the issue.

I’m facing the same issue. Battery was low, I put it on charging, now it won’t show anything on screen. It’s vibrating and even syncing with my phone where I can view steps, calories etc but the screen is Black.

Its out of warranty so Cannot be replaced.

This is so disappointing. Wish I had read the feedbacks before purchasing and trusting Fitbit.

Its only a ONE YEAR WATCH

Seems Fitbit don’t like negativity about their company and products that don’t work, and remove those posts.

Fair enough, seeing as I won’t be using Fitbit anymore due to the Versa becoming obsolete I have nothing I to use this site for anymore

@Ian.N  from what I see, Moderator @JuanJoFitbit is trying to assist you with this. The Versa isn't obsolete.

No, all they do is direct you to the warranty policy, small print. Any thing that you are asked to do ie hold 3 buttons hold 2 buttons, isn’t going to work without a bug fix to the firmware update. Which they have but not for the Versa, so yes if out of warranty is obsolete.

RicardoFitbit removed a post and messaged me in private due to me being negative.
