map has disappeared from exercise in app Versa 2

Last couple of days I have noticed following my 5-7km walk in the morning that the map has disappeared.  Went back through my history and it's disappeared as well.  Device is Pixel 6a

My procedure is to allow location all the time in the app settings, then open the walk option on the fitbit, then sync the app and it's ok, says GPS connected and then I'm off doing my walk.

When finished, change back the location to when using the app, sync again and the results are there including the map.  While I still have the results, and my phone says GPS is connected to Fitbit, no map.

I've logged out, rebooted phone, logged back, and set it up as anew device, and still no maps which is pretty frustrating.

Any suggestions as to what to do next?

Thanks

dookie

Hi again. I found this and followed all the instructions, it’s now showing the map again. I also noticed it wasn’t logging the distance accurately but won’t know until tomorrow if that is now working. Anyway hope this helps?

Andyathome2, thank you for your suggestion and I went into the app etc but the map did not show again.

Then I remembered that I had installed the latest update and put 2 and 2 together and realized that since this update, this is when things started going wrong.

So...I did my walk this morning, and turned location onto  always on as per normal.

Set up walk on the Fitbit as usual, opened the app and did the usual sync. It was then I noticed a few different things.

The phone indicated that GPS was on for Fitbit.

The fitbit itself was saying connecting but I did not get the usual vibration which has occurred when the GPS was connected in the past.  I have always used this vibration occurring as confirmation that the manual connection to GPS has worked.

Checked the fitbit itself and this said GPS was on.  During the walk the fitbit said that GPS was connected.

Did the walk, and then the usual steps to sync etc and no map.

I had set the auto recognize walking to 60 mins instead of the usual 10.  However, previously I hadn't done anything with this setting, and other walks got recorded in the app but with no map.  It was only the manually connected walks that generated the map.

Seeing as the only change with all of this was an update, next step is to delete app (but save data), and downgrade app to previous version.  If this works, then the conclusion is a problem with the update.

I'll keep people posted.  It is quite often suggested with updates, if problems occur and they can't be mitigated, then a downgrade to the app back to the previous version that worked is an option unless the user is prepared to put up with the problem(s).  I'll see what happens when I do the downgrade.

Further to this problem.

I just un-installed the latest update, re-installed the previous update, signed in etc and then checked the app.

Very interesting.

With the latest version, there were no maps showing at all even in my history.

With the previous version re-installed, all my history now shows the maps.  This adds fuel to the fire and the possible conclusion that the update was responsible somehow for the disappearing maps in the history and no maps showing after exercise.

We'll see what happens when next session of exercise is started.

well no luck with the downgrade so I will go back and see if what Andy suggested works.  Very disappointing that updates are made and the possible consequences aren't thought through when these updates are made...
