Able to create a custom meal and indicate number of servings

I would really like to be able to build a recipie and then indicate how many servings it makes and how much I ate and see nutritional break down by servings too.  I think it would way easier than trying to enter all ingredients then when its time to eat the leftovers I can just add the recipie serving.

I cook a lot at home&revisit recipes. Adding every single ingredient is a hassle. I want an option to save/log whole recipes that total up the nutritional information for me instead of always logging each little thing every time I make a meal or eat leftovers. I’m also horrible at math&portioning out from a larger previous recipes is so much work

More so than the custom option. Again I am so bad at math and having to add up the nutritional information of each ingredient on my own is too much work too even bother. Especially when Fitbit has all the info, just no good way to combine into a whole

I know that there are other apps for that but it would be great to have intake and outtake of calories in one app. IMHO.

Hi @fitlo, thanks for taking the time to share this suggestion about having the option to create your own recipes instead of logging each ingredient. I've moved it into a similar request. Over 90% of the food I eat, I cook from scratch. It's very difficult and time-consuming to record accurately. (i.e. home cooked roast beef with onions, celery and carrots; homemade salad sometimes with baby greens, sometimes with just Romaine; always including fresh veggies--carrots, onions, raw broccoli, diced fresh tomatoes, fresh mushrooms etc

Can we have an ETA on this feature? I joined Premium and I don't understand why I can't create a recipe and log my servings; logging food is important for weight loss and most people make food at home.

I guess they're working on it since I made a comment back when I was still working. I'm retired now since 2013. 🙂 While you're patiently waiting for the program designers to get something done, you could use the cronometer app for the time being. It's free and does exactly what you need. And no, I don't work for them. I just think it's stupid to drag your customers along for years and years and years and not do something about it. Duh. Besides, I like retirement. Good luck in your weight loss journey!  Whole foods to the rescue! I even log my whole grain sourdough breads!  Awesome!

Yo Bubba!

I think I might have actually posted this request back about when you
retired. LOL. I gave up on them a long time ago. I do still wear the FitBit
but have been amazed that they haven't figured this out by now. I think I
could have taught myself computer programming from scratch and put together
my own app by now. Basically figured it's not going to happen.

Take care. Stay healthy!

@YoBubba so I actually downloaded that app because I saw it in the comments too but it looks like I can't get those features without paying for a premium account, which is annoying because I'm on Fitbit premium right now so I don't want to do that (and I do like some of the Fitbit premium features except ahem ...'recipes' that don't have amounts on them) so I'm just hoping they do something about this NOW because once that 6 months of free premium runs out well not sure I'll continue on with that...I might as well join the weight watchers app again because I'm going to guess that it syncs with Fitbit; but I haven't looked into that yet. Or I suppose chronometer app if they sync with the Fitbit fitness stuff. Like why would it take this long? I would have absolutely been a team Fitbit user after buying this watch if they had the recipe/serving option since that's like the ONLY thing I need with the fitness tracking!! Losing customers who just bought the watch like flies

If you look up the forum on cronometer you can ask "recipe function on free app" and you will find some answers. I used it all the time when I had the free version. They also have youtube videos to learn how to use the program.

The food tracker should have the functionality of entering the ingredients for a full recipe of homemade food, and then being able to select a serving size of that food on an ongoing basis, relaying the nutritional information.

The problem, @LizzyFitbit , is that "here" is eight years old.

So I think what all the people that have asked about it many ways over the course of nearly a decade would like is some indication from the project and team leads that they care at all.

If the answer is an honest "No," then I will go with using MyFitnessPal for food-logging, and sync with the Fitbit app. Which we can do. But it's also perfectly possible Google-owned Fitbit will kill that workaround on purpose, in which case out histories would get confused and potentially lost.

So which is it? Should we do the workaround, feeling confident we won't be cut off from our data? Or should we hack it by using another app to create the recipe and manually adding a serving of that recipe it to the Fitbit library, because Fitbit intends to add this feature in the future?

EDIT: And, really, the relevant product manager really should be made aware of the fact that s/he has been ignoring a key requested feature that is easily prioritized for a really long time. And, perhaps more importantly, that product manager's boss should be made aware as well.

I would like the ability to have a recipe portion for food logging and a servings feature. I would like to be able to add all the ingredients in the amounts I use for a whole recipe and be able to input the number of servings it will be divided into so I can log a serving instead of doing the calculations for a single serving before inputting it.

Here we are in 2022 and you still can't add a recipe, add the number of servings, and then log 1 portion for a particular meal or snack.  This has 1,000 votes and I bet we could get more with a little effort.

I am wondering if Fitbit even monitors these comments or just the "thumbs up".  I am extremely disappointed that this feature hasn't been implemented in over 8 years.  It is rather simple.  I am using recipe keeper which allows me to simply copy the link and it pulls in the entire recipe from a website along with the nutritional data.  I paid eight dollars for a lifetime subscription.  I am not sure why this is a big issue other than they "don't wanna."

Sad.

I'm curious as to which recipe app you are using. I started using Whisk but I don't think the nutritional value is calculated correctly.

@Rhondakap There is a great app called Recipe Keeper.  It is free to use but if you want to use it across platforms like, phone, Alexa, computer etc you need to pay for it and on each device.  It only cost like 8 dollars and I have it on all three.  Totally worth it.

Just wanted to let FitBit know I unsubscribed from their email list today.
I think I sent my original message in over three years ago, have never
received an official reply from them, and apparently there is no plan to
add this feature. No sense getting 5 emails a week from very like-minded,
dedicated users who would like to see a fix when there is obviously no
intention from FitBit to do so. Moving on.

I'm speechless to see that this request was originally made in 2013, has a lot of support, and yet has still not been implemented.

I can guarantee that I will not continue with Fitbit premium if I'm not able to log my food easily or accurately. I used weight loss resources many years ago, and they were great, only downfall was they didn't have an app, so discontinued using them, but creating meals and knowing that someone had checked the calories and nutritional information on food items was reassuring. Fitbit is definitely missing a trick here.
