Ankle mode

Please make one u wear on ankle then u would get all the steps. When u are in a store with carts such as grocery, target etc it won't record all the walking one is doing with a cart. I have to try and push with one hand!! They can have pretty but functionally ankle devices some can be practically for a guy and pretty like an ankle bracelet for a women!!! Please develop this!! Soon!!

I am an RN and push around a medication cart for a good part of the day.  When doing this my steps do not register.  I have been wearing my fitbit around my ankle and secure it with a rubber band.  We did use the pebble at work but many got lost due to the type of job that we do.  Is it possible to come up with a fitbit that can be placed around the ankle?  What I am doing is not the most comfortable and I am worried it will get lost.  My steps are much more accurate with the fitbit around the ankle.

I agree.  My phone counts my steps at the grocery store so much better.  An ankle fitbit would help to count all of your steps.

It would be great if this could be done and done soon.

On the ankle it also would be prone to false steps and not as accurate as a body core mounted Fitbit One

If the issue is one of 100% accuracy being a priority, there are various options, often inconvenient, time consuming, unattractive, uncomfortable. Many fans (aka fanatics) welcome the rigour and accept the negatives.

Others, like myself, are happy with reasonable accuracy, certainly day over day comparatives valid, and prioritise convenience, comfort, easy everyday use & lack of highly visible plastic objects on our person. We would like an ankle option.

@Rich_Laue I disagree. I've watched & compared with friends who wear one on their wrist. There's far more false steps recorded worn on your wrist due to daily arm use without walking, particularly if you talk with your hands.

I guess you don't tap your feet, or play the piano or drums, ride a bike an ankle and waist mounted unit will count false false steps from peddling, an arm unit will count a few bumps.

Actually I do play the piano and ride a bike.  I find wearing my HR on my ankle is still more accurate during these activities strapped to my ankle. It doesn't count steps playing the piano (if it does you're probably going to break your pedals) and on the bike it generally understands your riding, not walking.

For accurate step counting, the Fitbit One worn clipped into a pocket or onto a bra strap is unbeatable and it's out of sight which is a plus in my opinion.

Wrist based Fitbits work better carried an a pocket in my experience (but even then, the One is more accurate).

I did a simple seatch, the same search requested to be done before add a request and found that an ankle strap has already been suggested.

I would also suggest the title should have a description that has something to do with the request.

I use a rollator (walker with wheels). Having tested it, I know the steps taken while using the rollator are not counted when I wear my Zip on my wrist, on my bra or keep it in my pocket. Only those few steps I take without the rollator are counted, which in my case, are few. When I wear the Zip on my ankle (currently I'm using a cat collar to keep it in place) or clip it to my hem, steps are counted. It may not be a completely accurate count, but I expect it is uniformly incorrect and, therefore, is a useful gauge.

I would like to upgrade to a Fitbit with more options, but am unable to figure out how to wear them on my ankle without looking like a work release prisoner.

Yes, my watch tracks steps & workouts fine, and is not as easily lost as the Fitbit One was lost when one of my ankle-wearing work-arounds failed to keep the "one" in place. (Wrists are fully populated with MedicAlert on one and Apple Watch on the other, plus a bracelet or two on occasion.)  On the Fitbit app, mainly I only observed the sleep, steps, & stairs options..

I treasure the fact that I look like a celebrity on house arrest with my ankle fitbit band, but that may not be for everyone. Perhaps you can find an ankle bracelet that can hold it & look decorative. I usually wear socks, so tends not be a visual issue. Sew a pocket on a wrist sweat band that fits your ankle? Check with Etsy.com and see if someone could design something for you?

I started wearing my fitbit flex on my ankle because I noticed that it does not count your steps accurately if you are wearing it on your wrist and are riding a bike, pushing a grocery cart, pushing a stroller or carrying a package. When I switched it to my ankle, the step count was right on!! I sure wish they would make a fitbit accessory so that you can wear it on your ankle and it was attractive like a pretty ankle bracelet. I found a cloth strap on amazon and I'm wearing it now, but it's winter and with jeans you can't see it. But in the summer I don't think it will work for me. It would be nice if Fitbit would make an ankle strap.

As a stay at home mother, many of my steps are made while pushing a stroller or shopping cart or while holding a baby. My Fitbit doesn't register when my arm is stationary. Currently I wear my Fitbit attached to my shoe or in my sock to get an accurate count or steps. It would be nice to see an ankle band for each version of the Fitbit. Currently I have a flex. Thanks!!

Have you tried sizing up? I can "almost" get my band around my ankle and am considering purchasing a bigger one to use it that way.

I have not tried that yet. I bought a flexible band with a little pocket
for my flex, but when stretched around my ankle it can slip out sometimes.

Have you checked on Amazon for something like this.

A pretty anklet Fitbit please. I have never had a problem with any of my Fitbit. If you make an anklet for the flex 2 it would be awesome and I would buy it. I like my blaze, but sometimes a lady wants something a bit more delicate.

Even on an ankle it wont count steps coreecly on a bike, you are not stepping. Fitbit doesnt use steps durring a bike ride for calories  What false steps received will be infuenced by the gears.

I support the suggestion for different reason. I like wearing stylish watches for different occasions so it would be nice to have an option to wear Fitbit other than wrist.

I would also like an ankle bracelet for times when I skate. Wrist trackers are uncomfortable under wrist guards!

To Rich_Laue

I'm riding an exercise bike not a racing bike and it counts half of my steps which is better than no steps!! But when you are carrying a package or grocery shopping with a grocery cart, it doesn't count any steps while holding on to something. So by wearing it on my ankle I get more steps than if I was wearing it on my wrist. And I don't use the calorie feature just the steps and sleep features. So it works Better for me on my ankle.

I've been researching this a lot and get really irritated by the official fitbit replies. Someone said they miss out steps while carrying their kids around and don't have pockets. The official response was 'put it in your pocket' or randomly guess how many steps you missed. How the hell is that supposed to be more accurate?

It seems the step counter when it is on the ankle is spot on. The issue is how the algorithm determines running, jogging, etc.

This would be so easy for them to implement. Simply create a new algorithm for wearing it on the ankle. Then just need a setting in the app that says 'where do you wear your fitbit?'. Problem solved.

There are so many people that currently do this or want it they have a great test base. I would gladly let them pull the data from my account to help create an algorithm for the ankle.
