Barcode Scanning for International Food Databases

At the moment, logging food via barcode scanning is only supported for the US food database. I would like the option of food scanning for international food databases as well with nutrition facts.

This is a pretty good idea to implement, as the feature of barcode scanning is more practical. So I encourage to keep voting for this idea and make it more popular, it would be nice to have this in a near future.

Do we know if there is a number of thumbs up that has to be achieve before this feature is included on the road map? Bit disappointed to find that it doesn't work in the UK, surely they should be advising people of that, is it not a bit of false advertising going on?

Could a Mod please advise what it the level of thumbs up required to have this feature on the road map?

Really wish I could scan more food in the UK. Some stuff does scan as I'm assuming it's a product that is also popular in the US but most does not. If you just opened up the database I would be happy to add stuff as I go. If the devs do not have time to go through the UK supermarkets and scan everything (haha) then open it up to users to add stuff to the database like you do in the US. I would really like to see this as one of your priorities!

On the plus side, really loving my surge. Logs my cycling quite well and accurately when comparing it to other apps that I have also used in the past. It has also been effective at making changes to my lifestyle where other methods have failed in the past but please.... UK database 🙂

I just got my FitBit Alta. I love it as it is making me do far more exercise. Anyway, I too saw the barcode help screen on the app I was tapping the screen, unaware thatthis feature is not available in the UK. I am puzzled as to why this is, after all, how hard can it be to make a database that can accept barcodes from the UK? They know how to make them, so come on FitBit time for you to do some work.

Hi,

Good to see this request - bad to see there's not too much interest. 😞

Anyway, I fully agree. I just became member of Fitbit community with a Blaze and would be happy to see Hungary as a locale option, also for the food database.

I'm sure none of these would be a complicated issue, but it would be appreciated in our country.

Thanks,

Jeno

I live and travel in Europe mostly, and occasionaly to the Asia region. It would be AWESOME to have barcode scanning abilities in every country.. . .with less guess work.

I have already posted here about the barcode scanning. I see that this thread goes back to over a year! I have only had my fitbit for a few weeks, the scanning would be very helpful. Alas, I feel that it is going to be a very long time if at all that this is going to be more worldwide than just USA. For why haven't fitbit started implementing this. They can see it is popular request.

Need to make sure everyone adds a thumbs up.

Please Fitbit get the UK food database activated as soon as possible.  Perhaps you should always think globally before launching a product and make sure that when you launch main features like this are operational globally, thereby keeping all potential purchasers happy:-)

Not everyone lives in America. Why prompt to add bar codes to the android app and then not allow you to do it?

It's only a database. How hard can it be?

Well they built a database for the USA, so surely the basics are there. Come on Fitbit, how many more people have to ask about the barcoding before you actually do something?

They aren't listening. Sad but seemingly true.

Fitbit Devs please sort this feature out for everyone that doesn't live in the US ASAP!!! It's very hit and miss, more miss than hit!

Lots of people mentioning MFP as a fix, but it's not actually a complete fix anyway. This is because the entries recorded there only show as 'summaries' once back in the Fitbit dash, and so are useless for reports.

Something I was looking forward to getting with my purchase of premium...

I bought my fitbit charge hr in May and use it every day. However, its usefulness is low as I cannot search foods in South Africa. I have 1 of 2 choices. 1 - add all foods manually. 2 - choose US or UK goods with wrong calorie and nutritional information. CAN YOU PLEASE ADD SA FOODS? Can you also allow us to add recipes like on myfitnesspal?

I'm still using myfitnesspal just to log my food as its so much better than the fitbit database. Id probably pay for premium if they added this feature but in the meantime I'll have to keep giving my money to UA.

Would be ideal to have an Australian food database considering that fitbit is sold here.
