Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

Instead of merely having "step" challenges, there should be an option to challenge your friends as to how many miles you have moved.  With that being said, I do spin class 2-3 times per week.   Since the stationary bike will tell you how many miles you've biked, is it possible to add a custom spot in the workout section on the app to add how many miles you bikes?

Hi,

I have been using Fitbit since beginning of this year and totally loved it. Especially the challenges that you can do with friends like Workweek Hustle.

I was wondering if there can be other challenge using Active minutes or Floor climb or Distance instead of just steps. Because:
1. Steps are not measured if I choose to go swimming or cycling as my exercise
2. Steps counts varied between person to person for the same distance travelled (difference strike length)

Therefore, I feel like if there is challenges created using Distance, Floors or Active minutes that would encourage people to compete with each other more fair regardless of their exercise types. This would definitely be more accurate rather than just Steps.

I hope Fitbit would take this into consideration and create more amazing challenges for Fitbit users.

Thank you
Kha

One of your ideas already exist on the Feature Request Board. I'd recommend voting and commenting on the following request:

I couldn't find a feature request for creating own challenges. I'd definitely recommend creating a new feature request for that one. Also, please include one feature request per post. It's easier to keep the board organized that way.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I love this idea! (I had this idea over a year ago, but didn't know about this community back then). I was doing a challange with friends almost everyday, but I really wished I could challange something more than just steps.

Most hours moved 250+ steps during a week / weekend would be a simple step based one. But staircases, or active minute totals would be great as well!

I really hope they add more challanges, as they were fun to participate in.

Hi The_Dave,

Thanks for your support!

I'm with you it is quite fun to participate in Fitbit challenge and it pushes you over your limit without you even knowing it. When I was doing step challenge with my friends I just wanted to go out and walk around all the time just to beat them, and they also felt the same. Very fun. But eventually we all got bored of it (we did it for 5 weeks straight though).

I hope they will add in more challenges as well so we can compete even people exercise differently like do weights at the gym, swimming, play sports etc, but we can all compete if we are doing challenge in Active Minutes total for example, actually that will be quite effective compared to steps challenge.

Thanks Kha! I agree this would be a great addition. Challenges are fun but they would be even more fun if they allowed us to challenge each other using other metrics than steps. I particularly like the idea of challenges using active minutes and number of floors.

Thanks Mangokll. Same as me I quite like to have Active minutes feature created as I do multiple types of exercise and seems like Steps only is not capturing them well enough.

Hopefully Fitbit will listen to us!

I also like the idea of a calorie challenge. Previous posts mentioned some gender, height differences in calorie count which I believe would be fair to consider. For a way to account for this, the challenge could look at percent improvement over everyone daily average (if you usually burn daily 1000 calories, 1500 burnt calories would mean 150%) then rank people according to their improvement.

I really think that adding more challenges would be awesome and this is actually the second post about creating more challenges for different activities. I always thought that doing a heathy eatting week would be fun too.

Hi Becca,

I like your idea about food challenge week. This could potentially motivate healthy eating habit too.

And hopefully Fitbit will create for challenges for us.

Thank you I really hope that fitbit will make new challenges. Maybe we should post a link to this thread on a Facebook group for fitbit users. If we get more votes we may have a better chance of this being considered.

Hi Becca,

Great idea. I just had a look at Fitbit FB page but I don't think I can post the link there.

It seems like only Fitbit can post things there... because there is no other poster apart from Fitbit actually.

If you know of a FB group user please let me know.

Cheers

I totally agree with the need for: calorie or minute based challenges!

In my opinion the 'challenge' aspect to fitbit is what makes getting fit fun! Sometimes it can be  a chore to stay in shape, but having a bit of competitive fun with your friends can really push you! Last night a spent an hour briskly walking on the treadmill - purely to overtake my friend's step count... where normally i would have spent it watching the TV.

I think fitbit need to expand on the challenges - and the best way to do this is to add 'calorie' challenges! I have a desk job so i do very few steps in the week, but I do workout very hard doing martial arts and burn a lot of calories!  My friend is on his feet all day and is currently smashing me with steps.

Come on fitbit.... give me a fighting chance here 😉 Add calorie challenges please!

i like the idea of a distance challenge. it "levels the playing field" with friends who have different stride lengths.

I agree with all of you.
Calories and active minutes should be also included in challenges.

Please @Fitbit, give us a chance.

Hi Syman,

That's exactly what my friends told me as well. Some of them have longer stride length and for the same distance they walk less steps than me. So it's a bit unfair.

Since having my Fitbit, I make a conscious effort to take the stairs... It would be A-mazing to see a floors challenge in the next update. Mix it up a little 😁

That is a great idea. Let the user define/create the challenge. Let the user define the time:1 day, 7 days, one month etc; the metrics: time active, steps, floors, etc; and finally allow the creation of teams to make different teams compete against each other.

Sleep challenges would be a great feature to add. Please seriously consider doing so.

Tell me about it! I compete with my sisters who do a lot of walking, and as a uni student I sit down a lot to do work. Step challenges would be great, especially with all the stairs around campus!

I bike a lot too so a calories burned and/or activity minutes challange would be great.

For me the HR zones don't line up well since my max hr is way above the calculated value.

Fitbit calculates my max hr at 220-50=170 in reality my max hr is more like 190-195, at least 20-25 beats above their prediction.

Agreed, needed more options than just step challenges
