Charge 3 - B&W vs Gray Scale (Brightness Issue)

Right now, The "gray scaled" text isn't visible in the sunlight and forget about it if I'm wearing sun glasses. We should be able to either chose between simple B&W display (eliminating the gray scale) or the ability to adjust the brightness even higher then it  is currently.

For similar visibility complaints, see the following.

Mine is the first in the above list.  I recommend voting them all up, so maybe the issue gets as much visibility as the Charge 3 needs 🙂

Re-posting, because this mysteriously vanished last time I posted it.

Agreed please make all fonts bright to enable them to be read

Just adding on to the suggestion, maybe make the screen in color?

I love my new Charge 3, but the greyed out text is a big issue for me.  Everything that is displayed on the screen is important and there doesn't seem to be a need to grey out certain text.  (Except to show off the new capability of the screen to display grey scale.)

I completely agree with the problem with the greyed out text. The greyed out text completely washes out in sunlight, even when I shade the display with my hand, it's still very difficult to read.

The biggest issue I have with the greyed out text is in the distance based exercise screens (i.e. walking, running).  The distance and elapsed time is only displayed as greyed out text.  There is no specific screen that shows these two stats.  Since these two stats are shown on every screen... doesn't that mean it's the most important of the other stats.  But I can't read them in sunlight and there's no other place to view them.

It seems like it would be an easy change to just change the style of the text to "white" instead of greyed out.  Fitbit... Please change this!!!

100% agree with the issue on the greyed out text.

It doesn't seem that the "Auto" Brightness setting on my Charge 3 does anything different than the "Normal" setting. Anyone else experiencing this? It would be great if the "Auto" setting could go darker when needed (as dark as the "Dim" setting). The display is very bright when viewing in a completely dark room.

Please Fitbit update ASAP. Shouldn’t be that hard.

We’re hoping for 3 simple things...

-more clock faces with date

-increased font

-brighten greyed out text

Please make the charge 3 great!

Thank you.

Agreed the steps & heart rate are impossible to see outside in the daylight & even with a quick glance inside you can't see them, not impressed at all considering this is the reason for the unit Smiley Mad

The Charge 2 had the screen display right. The charge 3 notifications is virtually unreadable due to dim lighting and tiny text that is way too small and disappears too fast. I miss the Charge 2.

Yes, still waiting on an update to address this issue. Got a new clock face
with date but it only has BP and not steps. The Charge 2 had a watch face
with date, bp and steps. I thought the Charge 3 would be better than the
Charge 2 but obviously I was wrong.

I do like the dual stat face but they need to add an all white font.

There is a clock face option that has the time, BP and steps but the steps are so tiny. When you are working out and want a quick glance it is so hard to see. And not only are they in a tiny font, the BP and steps are dimmed.

I need reading glasses to see the clock face. I can see the hours with out glasses BUT the minutes are grey and less bright and I cannot read them without my reading glasses.  It would be great if all digits were the same brightness!

Also I cant read the heart rate.  Please make that larger. The graphic on top is useless!

Thanks

Agreed.  Just bought mine and about to return it because of the unreadable display.

Totally agree, I would not have bought the 3 if I had known about this poor visability, wish I had kept my 2.

Another thing slightly off this subject, the screen is supposed to be 40% bigger, I don't think so.

Sure wish I knew what Fitbit people were thinking when they designed this.  I suggest they act fast before they start losing loyal Fitbit-ters

I honestly didn't look into this much because I kind of like the gray text when viewed in optimal conditions, but I just went for a walk outside and definitely could not see my steps. It's probably best to reduce the amount of grey used throughout the user interface.

Number of steps is the goal for me and when outside in the sun, I can’t read the display of steps in any of the offered formats.  Basic, basic, basic!  I have the Charge 3 and it’s even worse than it was on the Charge 2.

Hi @JillD55, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has a lot of votes. As the more votes and comments an idea has the more visibility and momentum it gains. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

My numbers are white & too have difficulty seeing progress outside & it’s even hard to see in the shade if it’s very sunny. I think they should update this Fitbit to allow the user to increase or decrease the brightness.

I am an avid jogger and cannot read the top and bottom fields in run mode since they are too dim.  Please make them as bright as the center main field.

+1

They could fix all these issues by allowing us to customize the clock faces top to bottom including what they display, the type of clock, and if we want the darker versus the brighter fonts.

This cant be this hard to correct!!!  What good is the unit if we cant read it.!!!

I agree there should be an option to remove grayscale and go to b&w id accept the increased battery usage, I’ve added my 2c worth to the clock face thread. This is just as important!

Charge 3 screen readability is a real drawback. The small grayscale font is very tough to see in anything other than ideal lighting. And I find that even the larger fonts, at the brightest setting, are not as bright as with the Charge 2. I’m guessing this is all about battery life, but I’m going to return my Charge 3 and go back to my Charge 2. At least until I find a new choice.
