Disable tap function so Fitbit device screen won't turn on at night

My Charge 2 turns on during the night when I sleep.  Quick View is turned off and there is no option in the app to disable "Tap" to turn on the display.  I've also found that the screen will light up sometimes when just going about my business.  Seems like some minor vibrations also erroneously activate the screen way too easily.  It used to take more effort to activate the screen by tapping.  Now it seems way too easy.  I would like to see this feature added to help me (and others) get some sleep and so that we only see the data from the screen when we "want" to.  This will also help save battery life and lead to recharging the unit less often; so this could be a "green" initiative too.  Does that help get this approved?  =^)

Thanks. Glad to hear you agree! If you haven't already, please feel free to give it a "thumbs up" vote.😄

I agree that it should be a setting from the tracker to turn it off at night. Also possible, the tracker could be programmed to incorporate the sleep schedule so that it disables the display during your sleep time.

@VicY I agree. Building the software to automatically disable the screen at night would be a great option to implement this concept.

I completely agree, I have quick view turned off, but without any way of turning off double tap, the screen lights up throughout the night as I or my blankets move. It especially disturbs my fiance, it wakes him up repeatedly. I absolutely hate the double tap, I'd rather not have it at all than have no way to turn it off at night.

Another vote here, super annoying. I don't care if you "need" it to navigate, that's fine just make it so you have to hit the button first. I don't want the screen lighting up every time I bump my arm on something twice, or in the middle of the night!

Wondering if this feature or something like it will ever get implemented. I still consistently accidentally "tap" on my Fitbit while sleeping at night and it keeps waking me up. Maybe I'm just hard-headed, but I want to track my sleep patterns, however, it's ironic that this issue with the Fitbit wakes me up regularly at night.  If this still bothers you all or anyone else, we've got to spread the word on this issue.  Please upvote the feature suggestion for visibilty.  Thanks!

I want this also. I find it turns on the screen while at the movies which makes everyone look in my direction. It also happens while I'm sleeping and depending on a few other factors WAKES ME UP!

Honestly I don't know why this is taking so long. This device is designed
to be worn 24x7 and it's designed to send your spouse to another bed....
This isn't rocket science guys.

I agree. When in work, performing some tasks will make the Charge 2 cycle through the options due to hand/wrist vibrations which I think is draining my battery quicker than it should be. All day sync is off, quick view is also off.

If there was an option to be able to press the side button and then tap on the screen that would be great!

Whenever I'm in work I find that performing some tasks (such as using hand tools, hammers, etc) will register as if I've tapped the screen, then it will go about cycling the options on my Charge 2 for as long as I'm busy which is causing my battery to drain faster than it should.

If there was a setting to be able to press the button on the side, and then tap on the screen that would be great!

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the ongoing support and votes for this topic.  This is truly an improvement that would help us all.  And I mean not only those who have posted here, but also the larger Charge 2 community.  We just don't seem to be getting Fitbit's attention.

So, let's try to take this to the next level.  If you still support getting this change accomplished, please post about it on social media and the other forums on this website, and link to this thread.  Ask for others to upvote this idea and post their support.  I still love my Charge 2, but the glare at night still plagues me.  It makes no sense that a device intended to aid our sleep is instead harming it.  It also makes no sense that these vibrations turn it on during the day either, depleting the battery and wasting electricity to recharge it more often.

Thanks again everyone for your support.  Hang in there and help us raise awareness!

Another vote here.  Would be nice to be able to have the choice to simply disable "Tap Display" feature for those of us who it would benefit.  Maybe even a setting that will make it so the screen will NEVER turn on unless you physically press the side button.

Mine also disturbs my wife when we are sleeping, so much to the point she has asked me to not wear it anymore during sleep.  Please just give us a toggle switch to disable/enable tap display.  Would love if I could get the fitbit to only turn the screen on if I physically press the button.

Nearly seven months with no progress? As customers of this product, and actual advocates of change in this process. WE SHOULDNT BE IGNORED....we shouldn't have to go out of our way to crowdfund and backup a brilliant and simply implemented ON - OFF SWITCH. I mean are you honestly kidding me? I am actually really frustrated with this,.. and you all should be too!!!

This feature is very annoying as a tradesman my Charge 2 is for ever being dumped and turned on. The battery life is not what it could be if this feature was removed.

This seems like a super easy fix for fitbit to make- simply have an option to ONLY turn the display on with the side button. Once it's on, the tap feature can change to different screens.  Thumbs UP!

I agree this problem could be easily included in the next update. Plenty of ideas in this thread as to how the display backlight could be managed.

The Ionic is not a released product, so it's hard to say what full features and settings it will have. Since it seems to be built off the Blaze, I want to suggest fixing my #1 complaint before the Ionic is even released.

The ability to turn off "Tap to Wake" is essential. It was apparently available on the Charge, but never made it to the Blaze. Please note that this is NOT quick view. I have had Quick view turned off since Day 1 with my Blaze. I am talking about the "feature" where you can double tap the screen, or the side of the device, to turn on the screen without pressing buttons. Unfortunately, this feature is not night friendly, as you may bump the device as you're sleeping. Considering the tracker is intended to be worn at night to track sleep, this feature seems counter to the goal. It's disruptive to some peoples' sleep, and also comes on randomly during the day while doing activities, which probably isn't great for battery life either. I've even found that my movements have sometimes navigated to other menus. Multiple times I've started a walk, timer, alarm, and find my notifications are constantly getting turned on when I don't want them to be, all because movement can turn on the screen.

If I cannot disable tap to wake, even with all its great sounding features, it is an absolute deal breaker for me in purchasing the Ionic. I will not purchase a product with the same flaw my current tracker has.

Bonus points if we have the choice to turn it off completely (through the on device settings) AND the choice to "turn off during certain hours", with hours set in the app.

Additionally, please let us lower the minimum brightness setting further. "Dim" is still VERY bright in a dark room (even brighter than my phone), and it's mostly just a black screen with some text!

I have the Charge2. Please, for the love of a good sleep and longer battery life: PROVIDE US THIS OPTION! I bought my Charge2 for a few reasons, one of the main being tracking my sleep. Not waking up all night because of the tap turning on.
It's beyond infuriating.

I work on a production line & I can see my fitbit lit up co constantly all day due to the vibration. I'm certainly not touching it at all! This causes the battery to only last 1 day! How hard can it be to add the option to only turn the display on by pressing the button?

Why can you not turn off double tab feature on the Blaze, when you can on the Charge HR ??

Pleace make this feature avalible on the Blaze!

I don't understand why if you have quick view off the face still will come on at times. And when quick view is off the face stay lit much longer. The reason to turn off quick view is to save battery life, at least that's what I use it for. So here would be my suggestion. Make it work, what I mean is, with quick view off the face won't come on for any reason unless the button is pressed. And once on, a simple press (or double press) of the button again and it turns back off.

Did you want to also disable the double tap? As for the button being pressed, many report that exercising tracking has been stopped because the arm or glove accidentally pressed the button. Clearly the button press should also be disabled as others have requested.
